Ancistrus Dolichopterus?

You guys think thats what it is? i think so, but with plecos you can never be to sure

it's the only species with one hard and nine soft dorsal rays (I,9).
I think so...your picture is a little fuzzy but it looks right
If you could get a clear shot of the dorsal you could say for sure... maybe it is just my eyes tonight that are fuzzy :)

Birger, nothing wrong with your eyes.

Gage, if you can produce a CLEAR picture of the dorsal fin, then we should be able to tell precisely - there is only one Ancistrus species with 10 dorsal rays, but there are several A. dolichopterus lookalikes.

thanx, ill try my best to get a good pic, he hides a lot, so i was lucky i got this one. but again, i will try.

Remember, patience is a virtue, and when it comes to getting good shots of a fish, that's certainly the only way - lots of patience and lots of "misses".

thanx, ive been patient for about 8 months lol, he really is just never out, hes very up for hiding in places you cant get a picture lol

I have some Ancistrus dolichopterus (L183), and it looks like yours..

Yes, but there are also some other species of Ancistrus that are fairly similar. [Although I'm not sure any of them have the CLEAR white band on the caudal fin].

I have three species of Ancistrus that were all purchased as A. dolichopterus. Only one really is. There are a good number of commonly available plecos that look similar to this species out there. Definitely count the rays :).
