When is tank too deep for corys?

Hi!

I am soon getting a new, big tank

I hope to gather most of my fish in it, among those 5 julii corys.

The water will be about 50 cm/ 20" deep (after gravel is added). Is this depth OK for the corys?

What should the maximum depth be in a tank with corys?

(I once read that the water must not be too deep for corys, but don't remember where)

I have dwarf cories in a 60 cm deep tank, and they have zero problem getting to the surface. I do not believe you can realistically have a tank in your house so deep cories would drown.

I have seen cories in public aquaria in tanks 120cm deep that i suspect have been forgotten about but were thriving.

Hy,
I had for about a half a year some c. panda in a 70 cm (28") high tank and I felt, that they hat most time probs to come ti the surface in one step. Most time they made a brake half a way up and I thought they don´t feel well.
Then I changed their home into the small tank with 65 litre (about 30 cm - 12" high). I think now they feel better.

I think I'll have to try it out, but keep the old tank ready in case the corys don't thrive.

Bit late with this one, but i have a 3ft cube discus tank with about 40 C.sterbai in it and they are perfectly fine. Ideally, if its a cory only tank, it needs to be deeper than it is tall. Ideally 12" tall and 15 - 18" deep

I have cories in a 10 gallon tank (app 30cm deep) and they are breeding while the cories in the 45 gallon tank (app 60 cm deep) are not breeding. All other water parameters are the same except when I do a water change on the 10 gallon I change 90% of the water while on the 45 I do a 40% water change. So the nitrates are higher on the 45 gallon and close to 0 on the 10 gallon. All in all I feel the cleaner the water the better the fish are going to be. In the Amazon, I am pretty certain that cories go much deeper than 60CM.

I think that depends wich corys you talk about. I read in one of my catfishbook that corys usually live in the flat watersite of the river and they just escape into deeper areas when they are are frightened of something.
