Driftwood Question

Ive got a 55gallon tank that im going to be setting up again.

I want some driftwood for it and was going to go to my local lake to get some nice looking pieces.

I want to know if i need to treat the wood, im sure there are all kinds of nasties living in it and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on how to prepare the wood before i put it in the tank.

its going to be a couple months or longer before the tank is even ready for driftwood so ive got time.

for a freshwater piece, i would boil if possible or let it sit in the sun and then give it a power wash with the hose before putting it into your tank.

You can also try freezing it, if it's small enough.

You can also put larger pieaces in the dishwasher (with no detergent) to clean them up.

There's actually not such a great risk of "nasties" from driftwood, as a general rule.

You can also use dry wood from your garden or such, most woods that are common in gardens such as fruit-trees, oak, chestnut, pecan, cherry etc are fine to use in the tank.

I'd love to see my wife's expression if she opened up the dishwasher and there was a piece of bogwood in there! Might be worth it, although the dog house is pretty uncomfortable........

That's easily solved just have to combine the fishroom and the doghouse
