I was asleep, dreaming of the Tetranematichthys at Pier's .Richard B wrote:where's Marc when we need him???
Besides, I'm wasn't really needed as 2 members gave a correct ID.
Hammerhead catfish.....makes you wonder how they would call Pangasius spp.
Asian hammerheads??
@HH: what makes you doubt that this isn't the real A. vittatus?

What I've found is that Walsh's name is mentioned in the Checklist of Catfishes (Ferraris) under A. vittatus with regard to the distribution of that species (page 70; last entry of Ageneiosus).Silurus wrote:This is the species that Walsh (1990) lists as Ageneiosus n. sp. and for which some of the pictures in the Cat-eLog exist under . I am not sure if this species was ever formally named.
(Sorry, I'm not able to copy/paste that part).

In Walsh's revision of Ageneiosus, Ageneiosus n. sp. is distinguished from A. vittatus by color pattern, differences in number of ribs, vertebrae, branched pectoral fin rays, and head and body shape. The distribution as listed in Ferraris (2007) is for the real A. vittatus as treated in Walsh (1990).
So it seems that this fish remains unnamed.

Expect a review - within a year or so.

Re: new catfish
I don't think anybody writes a review for a dissertation. A dissertation is an academic exercise (and not meant to be published like a book), very much like a scientific paper. Nobody writes a review for a scientific paper.Expect a review - within a year or so.

In that case I will certainly not be the first one. Thanks for pointing that out.Silurus wrote:I don't think anybody writes a review for a dissertation.Expect a review - within a year or so.
Btw: I have to wait until tomorrow to have a peek. The "book" was unbound, so the first thing I did was to make a real book of it by means of synthetic resin adhesive. It was dry within 30 minutes, but I was advised to let it be for at least 12 hours. That's going to be a surprise tomorrow.
