Small subtropical plec

Hi,

I have a 400 litre, 5ft tank with is around 22*C holding some danios rainbowfish weather loach and temporarily and geophagus.
Once the geo moves i hope to add a number of loaches and danios. But i also want a small plec (Around 6") to add. Is there a plec that is suitable for this set up?

The ph is 7.2 btw.

You can use the search engine in the Cat-eLog to find fish that are suitable from a temp/size perspective:
Loricariidae, 22-22 degrees C, 75-150 mm size.

Of those, if your "purpose" includes algae-clearing, the

Ancistrus sp(3)

is the prime candidate - it may be plain, but they are great characters, relatively outgoing, tolerant to most water conditins, and easy to care for.

If you don't care too much about algae clearing, the choice is much wider.

Chaetostoma

would be perfect.

These will enjoy the same cool fast-moving water as the loaches and danios.

They will also eat algae.

I like the look of several of them, especially chaetostoma milesi, L276 and chaetostoma sp. aff. milesi. Are any of them particually rare?

You can generally tell how rare a catfish is by the number of registered keepers.

Before you choose any Chaetostoma, keep in mind that they will need fast (in fact really fast) moving water.
These fishes are not particularly rare, but it is not the prefered one from resellers --> they die quickly if the conditions for maintenance are not there (water quality, current, temperature...)

Cool, thanks for all the info. I am adding a couple of power heads soon, should be suitable for the chaetostoma!
