Brown L144a ?

Post by Dave Rinaldo »

My LFS received fish labeled L144a.

It's brown.

Any such designation?

I'll take a pic next time I go in.

Thanks

I'd expect that to be "incorrect labeling". I got lots of hits on L144a, but the ones I found picture of was the albino variant of sp(3).

And I think you already knew that this would be the answer... ;-)

Dave on wholesale lists I see L144 and L144a quite often. When I talk to the wholesaler, it never is. I'm sure you'll be surprised to hear that!

I love your signature, btw .

A LFS also got in some L144 which were brown spotted Ancistrus very similar looking to sp(3). I am wondering if suppliers are using the L144a to supossedly mean the normal form of the species to which the abberant L144 belonged?

I think it's more simply that they get a lot of requests for L144 so any unknown bristlenose gets lumped under that number in hopes it will be a better seller ;).

Barbie,
Wholesalers never really do things like that, do they?
My LFS has lots of Ancistrus temmincki but they are Ancistrus sp.3 but that is not a very catchy name.
I like the name my best friend and I came up with because they breed none stop. We now call them Guppyostomus'.

They could be Calico Ancistrus Sp.3 I've seen ones that had a lot of yellow in them before.
