Three syno. eupterus. ( syno pecking order).

Post by Syno_Eupterus. »

I've got three adult syno. eupterus in a 150 gal tank.
They are about 17-18 yrs old and I'm quite attached to them, I originally got them for spawning but they never did (Almost once though).
From the almost spawning I gathered I had one female and two males. The female is the beta.

I keep hoping they'll want to spawn again one day, but I guess it's unlikley. I guess their spawning activity is once in a blue moon and I seriously regret messing up the one time they wanted to go at it.

There is a clear a pecking order. Alpha syno looks hot, I think he could win in a fish show...beta syno looks ok and gamma syno looks scruffy.
I'd think I have a fairly ideal situation for them since they almost have the tank almost to themselves except for a few convict cichlids.

Does this happen in all synos?.
I just chatted with someone and they said I should get a group or keep them all seperatly..
Well, I know they aren't killing each other since I've had them a while as a group, I don't have the means to seperate them, I couldn't acomodate a group of them and since I'm attached to the ones I already have, want to hang on to them..

Lately I've considered getting a forth baby syno. eup and growing them out in my twenty gal. Either that or experiment with rearranging the tank to help break up the pecking order a bit and so all three can be hot looking synos, not just the alpha.

I keep 7 adult S.Eupterus atm, the pecking order situation is quite normal.
The dominant cat usually has a more spectacular plume on the dorsal fin and much darker healthier appearance.
If you have 150Gal for 3 Synos with a few cons then moving things around could lead to more trouble in the tank, there is plenty room if the territories have good boundaries.
