Synodontis eburneensis or S. bastiani?

Post by Jools »

According to Fishbase the name Synodontis eburneensis is a junior synonym of Synodontis bastiani. Anyone know if this is generally accepted? I'm thinking on renaming as necessary in the cat-elog.

The synonymy was performed in Paugy & Roberts (1992) without any justification. The pictures in Poll's revision show two very obviously different species, so I would think that they are distinct.
Besides, Tyson has been known to lump things without looking at them carefully...
