Pimelodus Pictus help!!!

I can not find where the Pimelodus Pictus are from, AND I just got one the other day and I want to know if it is friendly to humans and other fish.

They come fron South America, mostly imoported from Colombia

They are not agressive, but quite busy, and like each others company. Thus it's best to either give it a few mates, or return is.

They are also friendly to humans, at least they never said anything bad to me

A single one will most probably feel scared. Best to keep them in a group of 5 or so (or more if you have lots of space). They will, in my experience, still hide quite a bit, until feeding time - where they swish around to find any bit of food they can gorge into themselves. You need food that sinks to the bottom, as they are not great at taking food from the surface - my Satanoperca are bottomfeeders, and they take food better from the surface than my pictus cats. Live or frozen larvae or small shrimp (Mysis) is a good food for these fish. Tetra Bits/Prima/Discus (same thing, different names for different markets) is another good choice.

oh ok another Q. I have a three gallon tank with on catfish in it and two Tiny Tiny trout would there still be enough room for another one because there is one more left.

Three gallons -> ten liters -> too small to keep anything but perhaps some fry in, in my personal opinion. A P. pictus will grow to about 15 cm - at least I have one that is that sort of size, and that's DEFINITELY too big for a 3g tank. A 20g would be the minimum, better of with a bigger tank.

yeah I know I might get a new tank later on this month it is just that it is my first catfish and I don't know much about it so I have you guys to help me.

I am getting a ten gallon tank for two Pimelodus Pictus for Christmas can my first one wait that long to get a new partner??

It's hard to say how old a fish is from it's size, 5cm is pretty small, so "not very old", but I can't say how old.

I have been stung a couple of times while trying to untangle them from netting. It hurts.

Otherwise they are among my favorite Pims.

They have serrated edges on teh fins, and they do get stuck very easily in nets. Nets with very fine mesh are better, but best is something that doesn't have any mesh at all - like a plastic container of some sort.

Isn't the speling terrible on in this fred
