L239?

Post by peterK »

Hi all

See this:
http://ichtios.pl/pl/oferta_pokaz.php?nr=5&typ=f&id=40
http://ichtios.pl/pl/oferta_pokaz.php?nr=3&typ=f&id=40

Is it a L239? Or I'm wrong?
If yes, tell me please something about that species:
-Are they good companion for SA dwarf cichlids e.g. Apistos?
-What do they eat? Wood, plants, meat? Or everything?
-Do they show blue on their body only when are young?
-How many of them could I keep (together with pair or trio of Apistos) in 70L (60x50x25cm) tank?
-It is possible to sex them when they are young?

Thanks,
Piotr>>>

They look like Ancistrini sp(l239) to me. The telltale sign that it's the correct species would be by looking at the Dorsal and Adipose fins, they should be fused:

They should be OK with most small or non-agressive South American Cichlids like Apistos, Angels, Geophaginae and such.

They eat vegetables and a bit of meat, as far as I can tell from searching the forum - there's no info in the Cat-eLog, but a vegetable-based mix is probably the most natural food. Also some meaty food, but not too much. They don't eat wood, from what's been written about them.

You can probably keep about three or so in a 70L tank, assuming you have plenty of hiding places.

Most plecos don't show much difference between sexes when they are young.

At the size shown in the photos, they seem pretty sexable to me...The bigger of them anyway...
