Oligancistrus L20 and L354

Post by kkorotev »

The pictures in DATZ seem to show Oligancistrus sp. L20 having a distinct "spot-free" outer margin on the dorsal and caudal fins. This does not seem to be the case in the pictures of L354.
The pictures of L354 here in the PC Cat-elog do not seem to follow this pattern and, in fact, seem to better match the DATZ pictures of L20 in this regard.

Does anyone know if this visual difference, as it appears in DATZ, can be considered a reliable way of distinguishing the two fish (assuming the collection location is unknown)?

L20 has smaller dots then L354 that have bigger and fewer dots, thats the only different I am aware of.
