No worries Ian, at the moment it looks like just me Shane and Racoll (and Neil too), but that's enough to have a fun and interesting time!

Anyone else coming? Even for Saturday?

Richard,

Great,

Do you want to meet somewhere so we can go down in "convoy" style? We plan to be leaving around 9AM or thereabouts from Bathgate via Strathclyde Country Park but I assume you'll take the road thru Biggar to the M74?

I'd also offer a lift, but, as you know, space is a little limited in my car.

thanks Jools. Yeh I'll take the Biggar road this time. I'll be leaving sometime between 8 and 9, so I'll see you at BAS.
I will definitely have to follow you from there to Pier though. I've done it once before a few years ago but I'm not too familiar with the roads there.

OK, Shane and I are leaving in the next 5 minutes. See you all at BAS between 12 and 1PM.

Shane's wearing his Tres Fronteras shirt and I'm wearing a "Got Catfish?" hoodie. Just so you can find us in the crowds :-)

I thought it was a superb fish shop tour. At Pier, we saw a superb selection of fish. There were probably more catfish varieties than you would find in any other shop, very good at this time of year, when you consider its not the season for South American fish. At BAS there was a reasonably good range of fish, and although not heavy on cats - I finally managed to get the adult male Jaguar that I need. I'll be back!!!
On Saturday night after several hours of good company, and with the help of Neil and co from Pier, I identified 3 new catfish species: a Shanus Linderii - species guiness-red-eye; a Joolus Dignalliatus with an unquenchable thirst and a Synodontis Rupert with lateral line erosion. (Sorry guys ).

So where were you all when we were in Darwen at the CSG meeting on Sunday then??

Have to say it would have been nice after all the effort to sort the weekend if some of you could have come to the meeting, would have been good to meet you all...

Yup, Shane is leaving today, so getting organised for the airport etc., but once I have a couple of days to get back up to speed on everything I will post a couple of pics.

I'm still kicking myself I didn't get the picture of the at Pier becuase they were something new to me.

We had to be back in Bathgate for 6PM, assuming the meeting started at 1PM, we'd already been past Darwen heading north. Equally it would have been nice for some of the meeting attendees to have come along on Saturday. It's good to meet up fellow catfish folks, but it's great to do it in the presence of a great many catfish species.

Well I am safe and secure back in Africa again. Jools and Wrasse will be glad to know that the fish all survived the return journey as well.

I had a great time with everyone and really enjoyed meeting new folks like Wrasse and Racoll as well as seeing Neil, Kev, and the gang again. If you find yourself in the UK be sure to stop by and see Neil. His shop is the incarnation of every hobbyist's daydream that starts with, "Now if I had a shop, I would do it like this...." I have seen private fishrooms with less healthy stock.
Shanus Linderii - species guiness-red-eye
Wrasse, glad you identified this morph, but in catfish circles it is just a "bread and butter" variety seen at most catfish conventions. It can be found in both the New World and Old World typically near a Guinness tap after dark.

Additionally these are a social morph often found in the small hours lying on their sides like clown loaches. They do not, however, commonly eat snails.

Well it was a real pleasure to meet you guys and talk drunken nonsense. :D

I couldn't leave Pier without fish, so I picked up 6 which I missed on Saturday (Thanks Neil ).

I'm off to collect my new discus now (the Nanay rather than Orinoco variety ).

Hope to see you all again, but hopefully down south. Oxford is very central with three excellent shops in driving distance (Goldfish Bowl, Maidenhead @ Oxford and Wildwoods).

Neil,
This is the South African hyphen barb. I moved some stuff around this weekend and realized I have about 20 of these things between tanks and pond. I need to stop bringing them home, but they are so attractive. I'll try to get some tank shots of them in a school.
