Cory metae eggs

Post by scotteim »

My Cory metae just spawned. (This is my first time spawning corys.) I removed the eggs and have them with an airstone in their own "bowl". I read the above link about spawning and it says fertilized eggs will be tan in color. My eggs are a tan in color, but I can't see anything inside. Is this how they're supposed to be? Or should I be able to see the fish inside the egg?

Thanks for any help.

Cory eggs do take 4 or 5 days to hatch but I don't recall actually seeing the fry through the egg membrane so much as the viable eggs become darker as they near hathing time. Congratulations on the C. metae spawn.

Thanks for the reply. I'm excited about this and find myself checking up on the eggs a few times a day.

I read to feed the fry live baby brine shrimp after their yolk sac is used up. Do you think frozen baby brine shrimp will work?

Thanks again,

It is best to use live foods, bbbs or microworms at first. After they transform from larvae and look like miniature Corys they will accept frozen baby brineshrimp well but live foods should still predominate.
Dead shrimp spoil very fast and can cause excessive losses. Use with care when they are very small.

Thanks again Larry!

Last night, I looked carefully at the eggs and thought I saw some movement inside, a little wriggling! I'm excited! Also, amazed at how fast these little guys develop!
