I know mine isn't heater burns either. There is just a thin white line running down both sides of the body. The lateral line is white. (But thanks for the suggestion!)
I don't use carbon and I normally change about 30% of the water each week. I feed the tank NLS pellets and they come right out to eat with the other fish at feeding time.

Not sure if this means anything
I have two featherfins exactly the same age, same size, purchased the same time, pretty much identical. Both have lived in the same tank and experienced the exact same changes in water, chemicals, etc., etc. One of them got the white spot stripe on both sides and a small white spot on the tail, while the other is just the same as when I bought him.
Makes me wonder if it is some sort of genetic thing? does this add anything to the mystery?
I haven't tried treating it with anything because didn't actually think it was anything to worry about. It hasn't changed for the better or worse since it appeared a few months ago.
I just realized this thread is a few weeks old, does anyone have an update on their spots?
