what are these guys?

Just bought these two for $7.99 each from the lfs. What are they and can you tell me anything about them? Thanks!

Yikes! How fast do they grow? I suppose if I kept them seperated that I could grow up up to maybe 8'' and then give them away, sell them, or something like that. I don't want them to go back to that particular store. They were kinda a rescue buy. They were housed in a tiny tank with died fish floating around them and many other smaller cats. I realize that isn't a permanent home but I know they would be better off with me than going back there even just temporarily until I can find them a more suitable home.

First of all, the other dead fish in the tank may very well be CAUSED by these fish - they are agressive and will eat ANYTTHING. I wouldn't recommend keeping two of the same species in the same tank either, but definitely can't be kept with ANY other species of fish.

I was told on a different forum that these are actually crystal eyed catfish.

Identification.... In life, the crystal blue eye and long, low sloping forehead identify this species which was previously known as Mystus wyckii. Due to the similarity in species name, sometimes this species is mixed up with H. wyckioides (previously known as Mystus nemerus) but H. wyckioides is a more grey colour and has a red tail fin.

From what I see, your fish have a red tail.

And the advice given applies to both species either way - they are both pretty agressive predators that "dismantle anything edible bigger than themselves".
