albofasciatus or blochii?

Post by fishlover88 »

Ok so i have a pair of pimelodus catfish. And for most of the time i believed them to be white lined pim (albofasciatus) but looking through a fish book of mine and now on this website under pimelodus blochii, i worry that i may have misclassified my catfish. Now neither one has a distinct coloration. And the only difference b/w the names is the size. However i have seen several other places that albofasciatus can grow to almost one ft and not the 5.9" that planetcatfish has them listed as.

I was wondering if there was any way other than wait and see how big they get that i can correctly identify my fish?

***I appologize for not having a picture. i will do my best to get one and then post it***

I would think they're probably P. blochi, because that's much more commonly available; but blochi are highly variable in terms of markings.
