Can Wonder Woman be far behind?

Post by lfinley58 »

Hello all.

I just had to make a comment on the species name of this fish. On seeing the name - batmani - I thought, no it can't be. But I was wrong. I checked the Etymology section of the paper and there it was. Now we have a loricariid catfish named in honor of the Caped Crusader. Actually, it is pretty cool.

I take it, they will be compatible with :-
Corydoras robinae
I ‘Doc I can’t stop singing The Green, Green Grass of Home’
“That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome.
‘Is it common?’
“It’s not unusual.” :YMTONGUE:

Hi Medaka.

I like it!!!! Wish I'd thought of that.

It may not work well with the respective pronunciations, but the names look good together.

All,

It's neat to see the new oto. It looks to me that the big difference is the "Batman" like symbol on its tail fin. Is there any others for us laymen?

I found out about it tonight at the Greater Detroit Aquarium Society meeting - Dr. Langhammer brought it up.

Let's find some more!

Hi Beersnob and all.

Beyond the distinctive color pattern of O. batmani there does not appear to be much to go on in regards to eyeball identification. The W-shaped (i.e. bat) mark on the caudal fin plus the body markings (" ...three discrete dark bands on the dorsum, between the dorsal-fin base and the caudal fin.") are noted to be distinguishing features. From our point of view, in regards to identification, I guess that this places it right along side the other "otto" cats with the diagnosis being based on color pattern.

one more thing

Hi all.

The description of O. batmani was based on 10 fish from three different locations : one in Colombia and two in Peru ("near Iquitos"). I certainly don't see any reason why this fish would not make it into the hobby, if it has not already done so.

O. batmani was in the hobby already in 2001, acc. to the pictures I took that time. Maybe it was sold under a different name?
