Wal-Mart Cat?

Post by CatWhat »

I seen a catfish at Wal-Mart today that was labelled as an Up-side down cat but I'm about 90% sure it wasn't. It was brown and white and it's whiskers were much longer then an Up-side Down cat's. But it does look like a Synodontis ( spelled wrong haha ). Any ideas?

Synos don't really have long barbels. Could it be one of these?

Nope niether one of them. It sorta has whites stripes/dots. I searched for something like it and the closest i can get to it is a Microsynodontis.

Nope im afriad not again, I wish I could give you more detail. It dont have the same build as that one though. It does not seem to me to be that high, like from belly to back. Also its mouth is more flat.

This is why these things are best done with a picture. From the way you describe the head, I doubt it's a Synodontis (they don't have "flat mouths").

Check out Pimelodus pictus in the Cat-t-log. I don't think they are going to stock anything but hardy, good selling, commonly available catfish. No picture and changing description will generate endless guessing but pictus cats show up at chain stores a lot.

Check Cat-e-Log under Pimelodus pictus. It will be something common, hardy, and a good seller.

Upside down cat

Post by CatfishHunterSB »

From what you've said I don't think it's an upside down cat. Have you checked Cat-e-Log under Pimelodus pictus? I recommend purchasing from a store who will be able to answer your questions and provide quailty information.

It doesn't look like our questioner is looking for an answer anymore but it does seem that many of us share the same hunch.
