Asterophysus batrachus
Probably a million posts on this, but i was just wondering how hard is it to keep these? Are these hard to find?

It shouldn't be hard to keep them, but the feeders will cost you something....
I've never seen them around here. In Japan (Aqua Shop True) they are offered "regularly", but I think we're talking about a few specimen every time. These are sold out within days btw.
The price of this species is high, which is understandable because it seems to be pretty rare. Check the site (search button) for all posts on Asterophysus and take your pick.

That's indeed pretty hot. So there's another feature that makes keeping this species more expensive: exorbitant heating costs .Bluepr wrote:i was mostly wondering about the temp. shown on the cat-eLog something like 79.0-86.0°C or 174.2-186.8°F thats pretty hot.
Seriously, these figures are definitely incorrect and should be 24-29 C. I'll change them right away.
Thanks for the tip.
PS: the Cat-eLog gave the Fahrenheit values as Celsius and those were converted to Fahrenheit.
86 C.... It is very hot in here; could you turn the aquarium down pls?

I'm sorry but I have to object to the above quoted "word".MatsP wrote:Doh!
Imo it's only used negatively and I haven't got the foggiest clue why it is used here.
You can't possibly blame me for the fact that you "missed" something in my post. Also it's not my fault that you are answering 20 posts in 30 minutes, which may indeed cause you to miss things.
Not happy.

"Doh!" is what Homer Simpson says when he realizes that he's done something "obviously wrong". [of course, if The Simpsons is dubbed in The Netherlands, the dubbers may of course have translated that part too!]
And the comment was towards myself not being capable of reading. Friends now?
[And to add to the list of "excuses", I've got a cold and have spent most of yesterday in a hospital - unrelated to said cold, or indeed my personal health/wellbeing/etc in general].

to answer OP questions, i keep mine between 82-84 degree and they seem to do fine. i just make sure there is alot of aeration in the tank and lots of water movement as they seem to enjoy floating right in front of the powerhead.
i dont play too much with water chemistry in any of my tanks. pH at 7.4, which is what i get right out of the tap.
i only feed market shrimp once every 2 days and water change @ 30-40% twice a week.
IMO, these are great catfish. if you ever get the chance to own one, i would recommend it. just make sure the tank mates are much much bigger than the gulper or else it has a good chance of being dinner for the catfish.
