What's the best cichlid site?

I spend so much time working on this site, I don't get out among the other fish web sites as much as I would like to.

I just wanted to gauge everyone's opinions on what other sites are good, why, and specifically in the cichlid world.

THe Cichlid Room Companion:
a lot of informations on many rare species and a lot of well known expert of the cichlid world...
Great pictures...
Good design...
It is the cichlid equivalent of PC!!!

The forum at CRC isn't quite as active as a few of the others, although Lisa has done a great job on it. The information there is usually the best, IMO.

It also depends, of course, on which types of cichlids you're the most interested in ;). I'd recommend:

My Cichlid likes me and I think it actually smiled.

2 Week suspension, with an email, "I am sorry but there is no scientific way of proving your cichlid likes you and/or can smile, this coment is stupid and not gray and boring enough to be left on the site, also do you realise the way you have typed your message could be confused with the words of a terrorist organisation, for this you are banned for the rest of your life".

If your post is not strait down the line it will be removed in 30 seconds flat, good for cichlid talk but if your after a chat and general chit chat with a laugh forget it.

The people, and many of the regular mods are ok. I've had several disagreements with the Admins though, before they completely removed their site issues area.

They are a little weird over there, but I do frequent their DIY section. Tread lightly, only bash the people who put 5 convicts in a 10g, and you'll be fine.

Haha. I think I saw that posted over on C-F, but it's odd I saw it before it was removed because I'm only over there once in a blue moon these days when I have not much else to do.

FWIW, The Cichlid Room Companion is a great resource.

The Malawi Cichlid Homepage is another great site with tons of info if you just poke around. Their URL is: http://malawicichlidhomepage.com/index_eng.html

Cichlid-Forum ... eh, there's a lot of activity. That's the one thing going for it. PC has a good number of informative posts to be found, but C-F requires wading through a lot of excess IMO. There's also the overmoderation in some areas and the over-protection of sponsors. I would not take any comments on the forum or in the reviews with respect to sponsors to heart. I've seen far too many things edited over the years.

There's Mojo's site if you're into non-rift species. If you are into Malawians, Raf at MalawiMayhem runs a nice site. If you are into tangs, there's always the Dubosi forums, though I seen that they changed recently and became part of something bigger, but it looks like their core group is still posting there.

Lastly there was a Dutch forum that SG has linked to me a couple of times, but I can't recall the name of it off the top of my head.

Zenyfish, which of the search options that we haven't currently got would you like to see?

The real problem isn't having the search option - it's having the data in the Cat-eLog in a way that it can actually be searched.

I most often use the "Search by Group" feature. Useful for finding a particular biotope fish, say a lamprologine from Tanganyika. Then I search by "Temperament" to get an indication how well the fish will get along. Something like the "Search by Species Characteristics" would be really useful.

I do like the new search feature on the catelog, though most people (me included) wouldn't be able to specify scientific family or genus names in a search.

if it's Tanganyikan cichlids and non cichlids I strongly recommend Duboisi.com

very informative and the "level" of some on the forum is high, very high.
some people there are breeding Bathybates....

they're THAT good.

I've never been on this site. As I think I do know something about central American cichlids, I visited that subforum.

What an unpleasant surprise.

It will not come into my favourites. I prefer the cichlidroom companion any time. However, that great forum is a bit focused on American cichlids. However, I don't mind, I'm even more focussed (why waste tankspace an any non american fish, if so much American fishes are still waiting to be kept?)
