Pure S. eupterus?

Post by shawntraviss »

Hey all, i just grabbed two of these little guys for a bit of a clean up grew for my juvi frontosa. Theyre color is a little off to me thats why im wondering if theyre pure, either way i picked them up for a reason so i wont be upset if theyre hybrids.

they look like a spotted variety of the genuine article; the big eyes are exactly right for a juvie this size.

unusual though, most juvenile eupterus this size have a lined vermiculated ('wormy') pattern, yours has a spotted pattern. but the variety in eupterus is realy big, much more than in any other synodontisspecies i know.
there's only one way to find out; raise them till they're 4" or so; then you can see very clearly if it's a hybrid or no.
I think it's a genuine eupterus, but I'm not 100% fixed.

I agree with sidguppy, i've raised a few eupterus from this size(ish) and have seen a few more spotted ones, not one that was this spotted though, however it looks like the genuine article to me.
