One of the biggest tasks of my life LOL

Post by justfishenator »

Here is what i propose ->

I go the LFS and place a order for this fish

L47 (5)
L90 Papa Pleco (5)

Yes 5, now why would I want 5 of these fish? They are very beautiful yes I agree but I have a bigger plan for them :)

I am going to raise them until they are around 6-8" where I can sex them, then what?

Separate them into 2x100gal tanks. Ratio of 1M-2F

Then I am going to have a go at breeding :)

The only problem I can see with this is: L90 aggression, will this be a problem? grow out tank is a 75gal tank, is this enough space?

Are you going to get L47's and L90's, or just L47's or L90's.
I have just recently got into'sucky' fish and have three L47's , A Parancistrus nudiventris, and a Parancistrus aurantiacus, all in the same tank (100gals), and they just squable amongst themselves no major problems. They are only small at the moment appx 5' for the 47's and 3' for the parancistrus each.
As for the panaque, there is a royal panaque in there two, I don't know if they have the same temperament but he's all right in there too.
I hope this helps you.
One more bucket of water and the farce is complete.

I was thinking 5 of each, but have decided that it may be a little to hard. Also the bio load would be HUGE, so I have decided to go with 5xL47

Just a few thoughts....

1) To seperate to 1m:2f twice you are going to need six fish.

2) If you get juvi fish, what if you get six males? or six females? If your intention is to begin a breeding project then would you not be better off with mature fish that are sexable?

Please note i have never bred any plecos but these just sprung to mind after reading your post.

Good luck with your plans.
