Sorubimichthys planiceps

Post by Noesis »

hi everyone,
just wanted to share a rather depressing thing i witnessed earlier today. I visited a LFS (first time going there) where i heard they had a variety of catfish collection. when i got there, i was shocked by the way they crammed huge ammount of fish in each of their 10g tanks (eaisly the most over-stocked tank i've ever seen)..even worse, I saw 2 of the 10g tanks were "filled" with Sorubimichthys planiceps (living and dead ones) that were about 3 inches. they had no labels, but i was sure that those were planiceps and knew that it was illegal to sell those in the area i live. when asking the store staff about it, he simply replied "yeah, it's illegal,,nice right?" it just made me feel really really sad on how some pet shops can be so unethical in their business.

It's unfortunately true that some fish-shops have little or no ethics in how they go about making their money.

However, high stock levels is fairly common, and often supported by technology that makes it fine to do that - for example filters that are way beyond what most "average" aquarists would even dream of using. Not always of course...
