Re: L-173b from Glaser
Good to see this post again. As I said some years ago - L 173b - is a low quality form of L 173. The problem is, that some breeders have used the variation of L 173 (wich is not that high) to sell their L 173 looking fish as well as L 173b. That means a lot of L 236, L 400 and L 333 and even Hybrids ...

Hi,
Thank you for the graet pictures and sharing your trip with us. I have some questions about Hypancistrus sp. L 270. Could you please describe the habitat. How large are they and where do they live?
best regards

Hi,
difficult to say. Could be a nice Hypancistrus sp. L 66 too. Body color of L 400 is a cold white. Let them grow, they are nice fish anyway. L 399/L 400 are very hard to seperate.

hi, @ mjh712 great Hypancistrus! Pattern reminds at H. sp. "Platinum" a very rare variant. Please provide more info and pictures of the fish. Re: Sex Queen Arabesque
Hi,
sorry to say, but I see also some L 411 (fish 1, 3, 4, 6). It should be a rule: Never mix different sources of Hypancistrus. Perhaps you could devide them. If they are from the same Parents they are hybrids.
By the way. Sexing L 260 is so difficult

Re: This fish was sold to me as L-333 but is it?
Hi, this is not L 129. Even the pattern is not typical for L 129. In my opinion the picture shows a L 333. Remember that L 333 was called "new Queen Arabesque". The bodyshape and the large eye could be the result of slow growing and not so perfect keeping conditions. Feed him well, and we will see.

Hi,
OK, any scientific papers for this? Or just another opinion? Sorry, but I think that dividing the xingu complex into some species and calling the rest a "swamp" is not a suitable solution for this phenomenon.

Re: Which Hypancistrus am I? (Mum, Dad and the kids)
No, No, this is not correct. In fact; every time you see a Hypancistrus with a slight different pattern and/or other feature you and your exporter/importer are creating species which don't exist, like 173b or 287. The moment you saw it doesn't worked anymore you started to brought in sounding names ...

Hi, the fish on the right is L 173, typical and very nice, could be the female, but L 173 is very difficult to sex. The fish in the front (left) is different and very hard to identify. Bodyshape looks like L 400, a dark one, could also be L 287-type or another Hypancistrus without an l-number. The ...

Oh,
this could get worse. Turn any lights off (light reduces the effect of the cure) and raise the temperature to 30 degrees Celsius (that kills ichtyo) . Than change water as much as possible.
I will keep my fingers crossed.

Hi, nice fish. This happens from time to time if you breed Hypancistrus. I think it happens also in the wild. So perhaps the very rare L-numbers are like these. This "lower xingu" shows also a very strange pattern. http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy154/chromapark/Hypancistrus_lower_xingu_a3.jpg

Hi, thank you. So this means: There will be L 333 before the ban. And L 333 after the ban, wich is L 401 before of the ban. It seems to get really confusing. Hi, @ Janne, You can get new L401 this year, they are allowed for export due a technical mistake Could you please tell us, what this mistake is about. Hi, it is not that easy. Few L 450 have a dark yellow body colour. Most of them are grey. Form of the fins and the body shape is a better way to make sure what they are. Hi, please be careful - among some L 450, I can see some other variants. I think it is better to devide them. 1, 10, 9, 3 are very different to the typical L 450. Sorry to say.
