Just about 2 years old, near as I can tell. He was an inch long when I bought him 20 months ago, so I figure he couldn't have been more than 2 or 3 months at the time.

Intestinal blockage

Well, definitely it was not a lack of fiber, he ate tons of greens, but I hadn't considered an intestinal parasite. What baffled me was the suddeness of it...Friday I vacuumed my tank, and as usual no sooner had I done that then he messed it up again. Obviously there were no problems then. 36 hours ...

Pl*co food

My sailfin had an affinity for the following, in order of preference:

Zucchini (god help anything that went near it)
Brine shrimp (dried cubes, went absolutely nuts over them)
Long english cucumber
Tubifex worms (again, dried cubes)
Peas
Shrimp pellets
Spirulina discs

Anyone heard of constipation killing a pl*co in one day?

My 12.5" sailfin just died, and the only thing that seemed to be wrong with him was a bout of constipation. He seemed fine yesterday, other than appearing to be bound. I fed him some cucumber, hoping that would take care of it. He never touched it, and got more and more listless. He did manage to ...

Well thanks SmilingSyno, you appear to have been right on the mark about oxygen levels. It's been 24 hours since adjusting my filter outflow to disturb the surface more, and Bob seems to be going up less frequently than previous. Could be coincidence, but I'm wondering if the long power outage during ...

Pl*co size

Yep, he's about 1.5 years...he was 1.25" long when I bought him, and being new to the pleco game, I believed the store when they said he would stay small. :? 5-6" max was the size mentioned. (Yes, I know, should have done my homework first.) Anyway, he rapidly passed that size and continues to grow ...

Scratches in acrylic

Yes, it is possible to remove scratches from acrylic...depending on depth. Bear in mind that removing scratches also involves removing thickness from the tank walls - not a good thing. As well, the areas that have been fixed will not be optically correct. Add to this the fact that the tank can only ...

Thanks all who replied!

Wow, I never expected to get answers that quickly. Thanks to everyone, I'm glad to be able to relax about Bob. :D As for the question about oxygen levels, no, nothing has changed in the tank, and nobody else seems to be breathing any different. I have adjusted my filters outflow to disturb the ...

Air gulping Sailfin?

My marble sailfin (sorry, new to the L numbering system, don't know which is the right one) had adopted a new behaviour in the last week. Every 5 minutes or so (day/night, doesn't seem to matter) he will go up to the surface, release a couple of large air bubbles through his gills, and then take a ...
