Breeding Synodontis Petricolas

Help! I've had my two petricolas in a 55 gallon tank with a few other cichlids for a couple of years. I've always wondered if I had a pair or not because they've always been close. Well, tonight they confirmed my suspicion! I saw some unusual behavior from them, sort of pecking at the gravel, then ...

Out of hiding

After almost exactly a year of hiding under a log, only coming out at night to eat (NEVER when the lights were on), my peppermint pleco has decided to explore the tank. I noticed the past few nights she seemed much more active than usual. Then last night, something caught the corner of my eye and I ...

There were two at a fish store in Arizona this past weekend. The asking price was $150 each!

They were beautiful, though. :)

Blue Panaque?

I seem to remember a while back that the blue panaque was a highly sought-after pleco. Someone had asked me to post where I had seen one when I was actually speaking of the blue phantom. Well, this time I've spotted the panaque. I was in a store in Tempe, AZ over the weekend and they have least two ...

Are Hikari Wafers a sufficient source of protein for plecos? I ask because I haven't had much success feeding mine anything other than Hikari wafers and fresh veggies. Any other meaty foods I put into the tank are quickly eaten by the other inhabitants. Only my bristlenose will come out during ...

Hmm... is the L30 an uncommon fish? If so I wonder if my ID is incorrect, since she was less expensive than the blue phantoms and others at the store. Does anyone know anything about their eating habits? Do they prefer veggies/algae or do they need meat in their diet? Still trying to get a picture ...

Peppermint Pleco

My husband brought home a beautiful peppermint pleco the other night. We decided the blue phantoms were just a little too pricey. I haven't been able to find much information on him/her with regard to her eating habits. I believe she is an L030 based on the photos. She's been hiding under (and ...

Thanks for the responses. I just called the store to speak with someone who I was told had more knowledge of these fish and he swears they are blue phantoms (L128). I don't remember these having spots, nor does my husband. We're going back to take another look tonight. I will take a picture and post ...

It was the blue (L239), not blue-eyed. Sorry for the confusion. He looks just like this: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/ancistri/42_1.htm I updated my profile to show my location. If anyone is interested in knowing where I found them, please send me a PM. I might swing back by tonight ...

Blue Pleco

Last night, I saw that my LFS had some blue plecos that were amazing! He said they were blue phantoms but when I looked up the info in the cat-eLog here, it looks like the blue panaque (no spots like the blue phantom shows here). There wasn't much info on the blue panaque--does anyone have one? I'd ...

That's what he is, colomesus asellus. The fish store had them in a tank with yoyo loaches and they didn't seem to be bothering them one bit (they were all scrambling at the front of the tank together wanting to be fed). All the other puffers are in tanks with just their own species. The tank is ...

Catfish with a Puffer?

I have somewhat passive South American Puffer in a 29 gallon tank with four pearl danios. I also have two synodontis nigriventris in a 12 gallon tank who hide all the time. I would like to get two more synos (in hopes of making them more comfortable coming out in the open) and move them to the 29 ...

I do have plenty of places like that for them to hide. I added a couple of small pieces of driftwood with some crevices and have noticed them hiding in there once or twice. I think they were just stressed from the move. In any case, they have settled down considerably and the one who was very pale ...

I thought I had enough, but maybe I should try adding another "cave"? I have several silk plants and a large fake driftwood decoration with lots of caves in it. But the gouramis have been hiding in the back quite a bit so maybe the catfish don't feel like they can hide there. Thanks, I'll give that ...

Thanks for that info (all is appreciated!). The LFS I bought them from acclimates all of their fish to local PH. They were in a tank of identical PH when I purchased them, and their behavior in that tank was much different (active, but not so hyper). Is it possible that they're more sensitive to the ...

Synodontis Nigriventris Behavior

I purchased two synodontis nigriventris and two dwarf gouramis yesterday and put them in my Eclipse System 12 along with three platies. The gouramis were shy at first but were fine by this morning. The upside-down catfish have not stopped racing around the tank since I got them and I'm concerned ...
