I'd like to pipe in and agree with what sterba said. I have bred lots of them and used water with essentially the same chemistry and temp. Cool, soft and acidic!

Re: Group of 8 L201's

I'd have to tear the tank apart to get shots of all 8 fish. If anyone has an honest interest I could probably do it though. They were sold to me by a reputable guy, who I trust but being that there are lots of fish that look like L201 I suppose they could be something else. Not trying to mis ...

Re: new synodontis tank cycle

Just a quick note on the water chemistry. My tap water has no buffer at all. When I set up my first tank here I noticed it and so I began to look for a remedy. I have found adding crushed coral to the filter, and some sodium bicarb during water changes to keep the Ph and Kh rock solid! I currently ...

Re: L-201's ordered

Never kept them. Most plecs I have kept do seem to like it a bit dim though. I have most of the plants (all easy low light stuff) to one side of the tank, so i can leave the lights off on the other side.

Not at all, feel free to ask whatever you like. Hypancistrus are meat eaters. My seller tells me they have been eating brine, bloodworms and cichlid pellets.

L-201's ordered

Well after being out of fish for more than a year, I set up a medium sized (55 USG) tank and will receive a shipment of L-201, on Wed. At least I hope they are L-201 and not one of the others that are sold as such. We will see! I can't really tell from the pic: http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction ...

Re: ID please

I'm currently working a deal out for a group of fish he has posted as L-201. I'll be getting 8-10 providing he can get me more females than males. I'm working with 1 55 gallon tank so I don't want to get too many, i'll likely wean it down to 2 trios if possible. I'll be sure to post pics to this ...

Cool Larry, Thanks for the link. Speaking of the issues in Columbia. I hear Blue Eyed Plecs (Panaque cochliodonare) are making it out in small numbers again. It would be cool to be able to own them again. There is a shop in Boston that has one, I have actually been giving some thought to choking up ...

When I first started breeding there was an old-timer in my club that advised me on these issues with apistos. I had this with A. maulbruter, and A. diplotaenia in particular. I had 2 female diplotaenia that would spawn within a day or two of one another, and decided to experiment. one would spawn ...

I hope so too. They seem to be doing everything but actually spawning. I'm going to hit them with a cool waterchange and see if that helps.

I dunno if you are way off or not. But, mine do not eat the wood I have in there with them. poor things are getting over a case of ich. I ended up having to medicate, as the salt treatment I tried didn't seem to work. I used quickcure, and heat. The cysts are dissapearing slowly, but they are much ...

Yeah, those blotches come and go. I am working on getting some flow in the tank without causing heat from powerheads. I have a tetra luft pump that puts out alot of psi, and was thinking of putting all that air through 1 stone strategically placed. I am also going to move the ancistrus and remove ...

Deb, I do know Amanda (I think), she is currently raising some Barbatus that I sold at an auction not long ago. I do have a Pet Smart near me, but haven't bought any fish there. Mainly cat litter LOL.

Thanks again to you both.

L239 again

I recently noticed a bit of ich on mine, and I dropped the level of water to reduce the amount of salt necessary for treatment. in order to do so, I had to turn off the powerhead and power filter I was using to produce current. The fish are now moving around and grazing more than I have seen in the ...

Chaetostoma

Picked up a few today. A bit unsure of what species yet, though they look like sp. aff. milesi.

Was wondering: will they be alright housed with ancistrus or L239?

I usually collect the fry from the cave with a turkey baster, just before they are ready to free-swim. If they are cories, I remove the eggs from the glass with a razor blade, and hatch them in the fry box. I then use flow-through fry boxes, that are fed fresh water by sponge filters. I can grow fry ...

I knew I had a snap around here someplace! I didn't save the original, so the one with my name is all I have left. This "cave" wasn't exactly hidden. The mouth of the pot was facing the front of the tank. You could see right in. Not a very good pic, but you can see the eggs under her. http://i143 ...
