Re: Sturisoma Species?

Hmm, it is full body. It's just quite wide so I guess your if your browser is narrow it gets cut off. Putting a rotated one up.

Sorry to highjack the thread, but is the care and feeding of hara hara essentially the same as hara jerdoni ? I'm thinking of setting up a tank with a hara catfish, but can only seem to find vendors with the hara hara. There also seems to be little information about the hara hara on the internet ...

Asian Cat for 14L

I was thinking of putting a small catfish in my desk aquarium. Any ideas? I would prefer an asian cat but any suggestions would be good. Oh, and preferably one that doesn't prefer large schoals (size constraints).

Otocinclus spawning habits

Hi, I have something of a mystery. I noticed today some sort of small egg sac on the underside of a leaf(bacopa). It's a small 13l tank and the leaf is near the top of the tank. The only inhabitants of the tank are a pair of Endler's Livebearers, Two otocinclus affinus and a single snail (malaysian ...

I had a loricarid that got ick yesterday morning, I found it dead when I got home tonight (with a bottle of medication in my bag) the other fish in the tank seem to be in perfect health. Do you think it would be a good idea to medicate (at a lessened dose) just to eliminate any chance of the other ...

Well, at the time of writing this the puffer has been in the tank for two hours. As soon as it noticed a snail on the glass it struck at it, ate it whole and is now actively searching the substrate for more. It actually strikes any odd shaped pebbles. Quite entertaining really.

There was one the first day. Left it in the tank. Day two I noticed a second so I was like "alright maybe this isn't a good idea" so both snails go in a jar. Day three I see three more tiny snails. So I bought a dwarf puffer and put the two from the jar back in the tank as food. Now it turns out the ...

Pictus cats are really interesting swimmers. Plus they're relatively peaceful and won't outgrow you tank.

I love them for their barbels though :)

I've decided it's most likely a juvenile malaysian trumpet snail. It's tiny and it's shell is mostly transparent. The shape of the shell at first almost looks like a Cowrie, but if you look carefully it has a bit of a spiral bud on the rear. I haven't decided whether I want to let it live in my ...

I've got a small (about half the size of a grain of rice) snail that I've discovered in my tank. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good site for identification of said snail. I am 99.99% sure he came in on an amazon sword plant (though since the store has all there plants together that ...

Just checked the catalogue. Each fish has a max size of 38'' (though it's unlikely all five will make it to that size) so by the 1 inch/gallon rule you would need at least a 190 gallon tank for all five. But odds are that wouldn't even be enough considering how active and aggressive they can be.

Has anyone ever known these bulldog catfishes to jump? It's alone in an uncovered 13L tank with lots of rocks, an amazon sword (Echinodorus bleheri) and plenty of natural rocks. Oh and really good filtration, it cycles the entire tank in just over a minute.

Cycling Question

What is it exactly about the cycling process that is harmful to fish? Is it the lack of bacterial colonies, or the spike in toxins that build up after a day or two as a lack of said colonies, or something else completely?

Actually on further inverstigation I believe that it's a Chaetostoma cf. thomsoni It has spots only on it's head and really prominent stripes from the armour.

Do you know what the cf. stands for?

I once gave my girlfriend a small pictus cat and on day two it gorged itself on an entire fancy guppy and died the next day I don't think it was eating any of her standard fish fare, but I think if you feed them properly they will be peaceful. Forget to feed them and you'll be missing fish.

Hi, I am a university student very new to the hobby and I feel impelled to build a farlowella habitat. I'm thinking of a 150 L tank that I'm going to try to intensively cycle and aquascape for a while before introducing any fish. I'm in the early planning/research stages and I'd like to make an ...
