Re: WC Synodontis sp. "Kenya"?

That is really interesting! Feel free to post more pics (and of the other two species too if you want). I just checked, and "sp. Kenya" and S.victoriae are still on the list. S.afrofischeri has disappeared though. I didn't know that the Sweden-based wholesaler deliver to our neighboring countries ...

Re: Dumb things we have done

We were moving to another part of the country. Arrived and start getting unpacked in the new apartment. After some days we started to feel this horrible smell from the bathroom. We investigated if there was some broken pipe connection from the toilet seat or something, but everything seemed ok. The ...

Re: New group of 6 Microglanis iheringi... or are they?

Thanks for your reply Eric. Yeah he was a fatty, always first to the food :-p . I traded him in a couple of years ago, at a very trusted LFS. Feel free to download the photos off imgur if you need them for reference. I have the original photos stored on a HD too, so i guess they are as safe as they ...

Re: WC Synodontis sp. "Kenya"?

Late answer:
The same wholesaler have both Synodontis afrofischeri and Synodontis victoriae on the list, which would suggest that these .sp "Kenya" are something else.
Just checked their website, still no photos.

Re: New group of 6 Microglanis iheringi... or are they?

Interesting thread! I've had several Microglanis sp. through the years. The latest one I had was one of the "woodgrained" ones. I started a thread about it back in 2012:

WC Synodontis sp. "Kenya"?

A wholesaler here in Sweden has just added "Wild Caught Synodontis sp. 'Kenya'" to their list. Sadly, there is no photo but the size is said to be between 8 and 12 cm. Does anyone here on PC have a guess on what species this might be? I did a search on freshwater species of Kenya and found ...

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

So we come to the smallest individual, let's call this one "03". This is the one I saw hiding in the plants last night. Almost all soft fin tissue is gone. Again, the photos are very blurry because of the constant swimming. Most of the caudal fin is gone, and although this is very serious damage,it ...

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

Here's the "middle" individual (by size). Let's call this one "02". It has severe fin damage in all fins but I'd say that it looks worse in the photos because the motion blur cause parts of the fins to "disappear" on photo. Especially the caudal fin. The pelvic fins are almost completely gone.

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

Update: First thing today I started preparing for moving the Synos. As I caught them I placed them one by one in a clear container to be able to document the fin damage. It was very hard to get any good photos at all because the catfish constant swimming. Here is the largest individual let's call ...

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

It is 3AM here, so I will look further into this and take action tomorrow. I have the option to move fish to a much larger tank (240 liter). Any suggestions on which of the trio I should move? All of them, some of them, only the most badly damaged? The 240 liter tank is a peaceful community tank ...

Re: Ongoing Synodontis Thread

I have three S.nigriventris in a 50 liter tank. The tank is doing very well, heavily planted. Plants are growing like crazy. Lots of hardscape/hiding places. Weekly 50% water changes, good filtration. Plenty of variation in food. I've been/worked in the hobby for close to 40 years. The three S ...

Thanks! They seem to be doing great in their new tank, with the first male I got from the beginning. Just fed them a piece of fresh broccoli.
Got any tips on breeding caves, diameter and depth? Open on one or both ends?

Re: Ancistrus claro. Finally!

Thanks Eric.
I will try to take some photos of it next time. I would describe it as a somewhat broad and flat Ancistrus male with quite a substantial branched mass of tentacles on the snout. All dark grey/black with tiny white spots. Around 9cm.

Ancistrus claro. Finally!

I've been looking for this species for years, decades even. My LFS posted a list of new fish in their store this week, and there it was "LDA-08"! The very next day I paid them a visit and was sad to hear that they only had two (they had only ordered two on a whim). Upon further investigation I could ...

Amblydoras - a blast from the past!

Hi, it has been a while since I posted something here on PlanetCatfish. I just want to show off these two Doradids i picked up yesterday. :d It feels a bit nostalgic as this species is an old favourite of mine and I haven't found them in the trade (here in Sweden) for about 10 years. They were sold ...

Microglanis sp. but which is it?

Hello. I just bought this little fella from an LFS. I was told it was a trade-in, so i don't know from where it is originally, how old it is etc. I've seen and kept several Microglanis before, but none of them have been this dark in coloration and this chubby. In the tank at the LFS it was much ...

Re: Agamyxis missing pelvic fins?

This morning I found the large one (missing both pelvic fins) and one of the smaller ones (the one with both fins) cuddling in the corner of my tank. So I took some quick photos of them.

Agamyxis missing pelvic fins?

Hi. I recently bought three Agamyxis pectinifrons at separate occasions. I first bought 2 small ones (ca 6cm) together and i noticed that one of them had both pelvic fins while the other had only one. No stump or anything, just smooth skin where the missing pelvic fin should be. A few hours ago, i ...

Massive Panaque on video.

Hey everybody.

I just stumbled upon this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCjlzFG_3Xs

I found it via google images and then this blog http://ohcyrus.wordpress.com/ wich also has a couple of pictures of the beast.

I hope it survived at the local aquarium.

Silurichthys phaiiosoma

On the same list where I found "Hara sillaungi" I also found "Silurichthys phaiiosoma". It's easier to find info about this species, but I'm wondering if anyone here on the forum have any first hand experiences on keeping them, or any Silurichthys species? (I've read the CotM article on Silurichthys ...

Hara sillaungi?

The name in the subject, "Hara sillaungi", is copy-pasted from an importer's online fishlist, they are listed as Wild Caught.

Do anyone here have some info on this species? It seems hard finding anything useful about it on the internet.

I used to work in an LFS and sometimes we could order what was called "doctorfish" from the list, they were always Garra.sp . The fish on that picture is no Garra.

I didn't say that two different species (or more) can share the same popular name though.

Wow indeed!

As an employee in an LFS for three years, I was constantly searching the lists for that species. It didn't show up once in three years!... Then someone buys a piece of driftwood... amazing!

Congratulations to a great find!
