My beloved Louie has passed on, naturally. He will be missed. Thank you to all who had offered support and advice during his recovery (which was amazing!)
He was over 8 years old and his life had been remarkable. I sure will miss seeing his handsome face looking back at me from the tank.

Louie revisited - healed and well. August 2007
Just taking a moment to post some more update photos of Louie's tail recovery. Louie is doing fine, eating well, swimming and hiding normally. Occasionally makes an appearance for photo opportunities. His tail looks extraordinarily thin in the damaged area but if you didn't know about his horrible ...

A Remarkable Recovery! (was: Plec in dire straits)
Remember Louie? 2 months ago I posted about my broken tank and Louie's injury of unknown origin. For those who are not familiar. The tank cracked, all fish were bucketed, a new tank was purchased, all fish but Louie died in the first 24 hours (because the tank was not cycled obviously). Within a day ...

Deb, I am in love with Mac and delighted to hear of his miraculous recovery! It gives me great hope for my 8 year old baby Louie whose gruesome photos can be seen here. This is a 20 day progression. On the 21st day I moved him to a hospital tank, his lesions burst during the netting to move him but ...

New Pictures of Wound Progression on Pleco
New pictures of the progression of Louie's condition. Today I moved him to a hospital tank - using 4 gallons of water from the main tank. Added the appropriate dose of medication API MELAFIX Antibacterial fish remedy. The label says it rapidly repairs damaged fins, ulcers, and open wounds. Promotes ...

I am hopeful my Plec is doing better!
I bought the full set of testing drops. No more little strips. The pond water is perfect. The aquarium water is terrible yet the water is nearly crystal clear now. Hopefully it won't be long until the Ph drops and the bacteria finally balance the tank. There are currently only 5 tiny goldfish eating ...

Did another 25% water change today. Treated the new water with Wardley 3-in-1.
I also added a continous monitoring Ph meter and a new thermometer.
In addition they've received a new external background (they must like it because they keep looking at it) and a tank length bubble curtain. Louie the ...

I live in Palm Harbor Florida which is in the Tampa Bay area - Gulf Beach side. I have adjusted my profile accordingly.
I know it isn't from a heater burn because I don't use a heater. The injury started as little red spots similar to a hicky on the skin, then progressed to the skin sloughing off ...

Help! Pleco may be in dire straits!
My pleco is missing a band of skin in the center of his tail. It is getting larger and is raw at the edges of the wound. We don't know how he suffered this wound but we suspect it had something to do with a tank change.
