I would say an inch or a little less a year depending on conditions would be a good benchmark. This Girl(?) has grown 10cm in 4 yrs. http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/firenzenz/DSC_0165.jpg http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/firenzenz/DSC_0142-1.jpg http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3 ...

I have 5 left that range in the 10-12cm range I lost a 13cm fish 18 mths ago out of the blue. It showed a lot more odontodal growth at smaller and younger age. Therw are 13cm ...

Re: L239 Spawning ....... and more
Awesome news Crazy Geoff. Put me down for some juvies down the line. A great addition to our NZ's plec stock. I often think how some of our European/American friends would like our water conditions. In Akl where we both live( or close to) we get plenty of it. I collect my water from rain in a 30 ...

Re: Catfish and African c*****ds
catfish and africans cichlids incorporate so many species. The mbuna you have are far more territorial and therefore aggressive in defending the hidey holes in the rocks that the catfish want to also inhabit. A big old featherfin or Angelicus synodontis( african catfish) might be ok with aggression ...

Re: Suspect this is some form of panaque "tiger pl*co"
Even though common names are utterly meaningless it would be good if the different retailers could at least use the same common name if that is what they purchased the fish as, if that makes sense :screwy: Indeed, it makes sense to me. I'm pretty sure it's mix between accidental mislabeling and ...

Re: Sexing Hemiancistrus sp. L128
I acquired my eight L128's in Nov 05' and they were 3cm in length, so I'm guessing they were 3-4mths old then which now makes them just over three yrs old now. There tank for almost first year was 100ltrs, a small time in a 250ltrs until moving into 600ltr for last 18months. I lost one of my largest ...

Re: Catfish Tank??
I have plec only tanks for sure. Your wishlist would be eccletic to say the least in one tank, because of the variance of sizes but also because you have listed, meat eater, vege/algae eaters, omnivores and wood eaters. Perhaps look at plecs where there is more commonality in size and diet. Your ...

Re: L136 eggs
Update:
Well the fry are venturing to the mouth of the cave now and I suspect they 'll be out in a few days.
The red circle is a couple of the juvi's, and the yellow square is a different female who seems very keen on the cave.

L136 eggs
I moved the L136's into the own tank on the weekend. Within 2 days one the females was in the cave and now we have eggs. What now? 100 ltr tank with only a liitle pump blowing across cave. Do I need more current/airation etc. Do I remove the guppies and platys that were in there cycling the tank ...

Hi Nhl Apologies for riding on your post but i was going to post virtually the same qusetion. I have them in the same conditions as the L128's-bouldery rocks and wood with a slate cave as ...

Hmm
One of those squiggly hypans,
I'm Definitely not an expert but perhaps the squiggles aren't fine enough for L260.
L066, L401?
Sweet fish you've got though Sabi whatever it turns out to be.

Re: Do you think fish keeping might be a bit cruel.
I have had 8 plecs (L128) for 2 &1/2 yrs in captivity. The dominant fish are 12-14cm having shared conditions that I hope would suit, high filtration in a 125 gallon tank. Recently a load of wildcaught L128's came into the country. These fish are the same size as my largest fish yet They are ...

I see North America and Europe take the cake here, so to speak. :D New Zealand and Aussie have a combined population of 22 miilion, this would be i guess the population of a medium- small european nation and the size of a big US state or a couple of Moderate sized ones, let alone the crazy numbers ...

Importer can't positively ID this.
Most of his fish are sourced from Peru and are panagolus type of panaques or Cochliodons/Hypostumus species. Any ideas.
Cheers!

Hi Two months ago put into 100ltr tank 145mm female, 143mm male and 138mm male- who I thought to be dominant. I was seperating from other 5 in colony because of size discrepency. 143mm male now over 150mm, other male has been shunted to the side and a bit mauled. female fatter but no longer. I've ...

Loricariidae Family tree wtd
Hi
I'm looking for a copy of the Loricariidae family tree. I have seen one before, it was shown to me in printed form. It was very interesting showing the sub groups as they branched off and evolved .
Anyone seen something like this ?
Thnks

The Rio Orinoco at about 2500kms is huge but still wouldn't be in the top[ 6 longest river in Sth America and might be lucky to make it into the top 25 in the world- gives you an idea of the massive size of that whole Amazon region. Here are some shots around Puerto Ayacucho I refound. I seem to ...
