Re: Dianema urostriatum showing signs of spawning
Put in a yellow plastic lid about 6" in diameter or water lily leaf. I had them spawn that way back in the 80's.

I started keeping fish when I was 12. Now 65 years later and about 100 tanks and 5 ponds I'm still at it.

Re: green dragon origins?
That I would also like to Know. I heard that they came from Germany and the first ones that I saw were at Fantastic Fins in Lavonia. They must have some albino in the back ground as my long fins always had pure all green fry until they got bred back to a daughter. They then have a few very white ...

What are you feeding them? They should not be fed until the yolk sac is absorbed. Tbe first food should be micro worms for the first few days to a week.

When I had a spawn some years ago I found the fry went for live baby brine shrimp as a first food in a bare bottom tank. I now have a new group that I hope will spawn soon.grga wrote:I saw two of them attached to zucchini last night so I presume they started to look at it as a food! ;)

Re: Dianema urostriatum showing signs of spawning
I would move the eggs to the plastic tub so they won't get eaten. They should hatch in about 4 days even if they fall of the leaf.

Re: C. Venezuelanus carrying 19 eggs??
I have found that Corydoras venezuelanus has very small eggs for a cory of it's size. That may account for the fact that they can carry so many at one time.

Re: Duplicareaus Breeding
Sand on the bottom does make a big difference for many cories. They truly prefer it. It seems to make the system healthier too as more fry survive when there is sand. At what age are your duplicareus starting to spawn? I have some in a tank with my panda cories and I am worried they may hybridize ...

Re: Super Red Long Fin Pleco
Most people assumed that you had to cross a Super Red male with a Red Calico long fin female. Assuming that the Super Red was developed from Red Calicos That would give you all Calico fry the first generation. I crossed a Super Red male to a long finned Albino female. Being two unrelated color ...

You only have to go on Aquabid to see the majority will pay dearly for new colors and long fin mutations. It is all personal preference. I hate Parrot Cichlids.

Super Red Long Fin Pleco
A number of people have been trying to develop their own strain of Super Red Long Fin Plecos. I have possibly taken a different route and have a few pure red that I hope will breed soon. Here is one about 4 inches long.

What is the species of cory that are spawning? Many will spawn with just a cool tap water change and some with adding 50% RO. Some of mine also spawn with just putting in a few Alder Cones.

Re: corys and bushynose?
I keep a group of Aspidoras albater in my 15 gallon tanks with breeding trios of bushynose. I have lakeshore sand on the bottom and a few pieces of driftwood in the tanks as well as a spawning mop. After most water changes I pick about 25 or more eggs from the mop. The Aspidoras are too small to ...

I wouldn't be without them as the majority of cories spawn all or half their eggs in mops.

Re: A Super Red Question
I am also working on long fin super reds and am at what I would call F2 of my crosses. A few are turning out a solid red where some are more like a high red calico. I think it will probably take at least 2 more generations to develop a pure strain.

I have been breeding Super Red Ancistrus for several years now. I have expected a Long Fin version of this fish would have shown up by now. Does anyone know if they are in existance? I have thought that perhaps they do exist but are not yet being exported.

Re: Duplicareaus Breeding
There could be a number of factors. And perhaps you have considered these but I will throw it out there anyways. Perhaps the male(s) are more fertile? What about the age of the fish? What are the water parameters in comparison from what was used before? Are the aquariums setup differently (even if ...

Duplicareaus Breeding
A number of years ago a friend who has since passed away gave me his pair of C. duplicareus. I bred them and raised a number of fry but was always disapointed with the 1 or 2 eggs that hatched in each spawning. I did raise enough to sell a few and increase the pair to a breeding group. A summer or ...

Re: Repashy Fish Food and Corydoras Fry
I have found it to be a very good food. However I would suggest boiling the water in a kettle or pot. Microwaved water is destroyed in the microwave. Microwaved foods lose 60% to 90% of their vitamins. Seeds watered with water that has been microwaved will not grow. Search Microwaves and Cancer. You ...
