Hi thanks for the replies. My tank is not a 'planted tank' but I have a lot of real plants and they have plenty of hiding places - which they use! :D They tend to just sit in there when im in and if I come back and they are caught in the open they shoot back in! Unfortunately I think they connect be ...

How active are your corys?

I have 4 network corys in an 18 ukgal tank and they have been in there for about 8 weeks. They are doing really well but are still very timid. I know it has been mentioned that they are prob wild caught but I was wondering if it was usual or if there was any chance they may settle down in the end ...

Wow thats interesting - I must admit that I do like the aquarium nice and clean. Also a couple of weeks ago I got a new algae scraper, I didnt do a great job as it was the first time I used it, the next week it hadnt got so bad. I cleaned it really well and it has come back worse - so i gues it ...

Hi thanks for the reply.

I have heard people say this before about brwon alage but got the impression they more meant during cycling becasue of the ammonia and nitrites, however although my tank is 'new' its fully cycled and has no ammonia, nitrites and low nitrates.

Fit in any of the little fellows..?

Hi I have a problem with brown algae. I clean my tank one a week but by the time the 7 days is up its not look great! Its really bad on the plants, especailly nubias and now getting on the j.fern. It builds up light films on the glass and patches all over the substrate too. I believe this is down to ...

Thanks for the advice! I think I have mastered it! Came in from work today and they looked like they may be up for some grub (dont ask me how - i just had the feeling) I put half a pellet in the normal place (open up hatch and drop in so falls at the front of the tank) and as usual the corys went to ...

New and not eating?

Hi I have recently stocked my cycled tank with a pearl gourami , 8 cardinals and 4 Corydoras reticulatus. Everybody appears really happy and getting along really well. I am so pleased I went for corys instead of a plec as they are just great, and really pleased with Corydoras reticulatus as they are ...

Kostas, So unless toplecornottoplec has already switched off and gone to some other forum, my suggestion is to use water just as it comes out of the tap, mix to get the right temperature, add some dechlorinator (StressCoat is my favourite, but other brands are available and work too). -- Mats Cant ...

Funnily enough I have just got back from Woking Maidenhead Aquatics! I think i'm going to start my tank with the platy then add the tetras and then re-asses after everyone has settled in. They had both wee wee baby bristlenoses and a fully grown bristlenose there and I still really like these, think ...

No, No! Perhaps I have not been clear in the other thread :(
For me it is a choice between corys or plec, if i can house a BN then I wouldnt have the corys because this is my first tank and dont want to complicate it with too many fish that need different things!

Sorry! I've added it in. I believe I live in a hard water area. I'm really confused now! People on a general fish forum seem to think that some tetras, a couple of platy and a BN would over stock or be on the very limit for my tank, and are putting me off the idea as I dont want to get in that ...

DO you think a couple platy would be better?

I'd heard that as long as you make sure the nitrite, amonia etc are all ok most fish will adapt to the type of water ok?

I see your point and agree completley, if people think a bristlenose would be happy in a well maintained tank of my size then I will get one instead of the corys, as I just think they are the most wondeful fish! Thanks for all your help, its great to be able to get so much information so quickly ...

I love the look of the Ancistrus dolichopterus! It is beautiful!

Do normal lfs sell these type or are they hard to come across?

I also notice that most poeple say that you should have a min of 4 corys - is this the same for plecs or are they happy on there lonesome?

Wow! I didnt realise that there were quite so many! To be honest the Oto's look nic ebut not reallt the sort of catfish which I really like. Am i right in thinking Ancistrus family are the same as the bristlenose? I really like these type but it is quite worring as although some say they dont grow ...

I have recently started researching into starting a tropical tank. I have been to my lfs and the biggest tank I think I can get is something like: The Fluval Duo Deep 600 Aquarium measures: 60cm long x 35cm deep x 40cm high. I have done some research and thin i'm going to start with guppiesd, then ...
