I would say yes. Check out the pics on L-Welse; there are pics of both striped and dotted specimens. Looks to be highly variable.

I agree with Eric. Look at the shape of the nose; it has that pentagon shape. Females come to a point like a triangle.

L201 or L339?
Picked up this little gal at a local fish swap. It was labeled L201. I just want to make sure since her dots are a little smaller than my current L201s. Thank you.

That sucks. Sorry for the losses. I had a similar experience and lost all but 1 of my breeding lower Rio xingus and a pair of L260s.

at wiggling stage, i would expect them to stay in the cave for another week, but sometimes they drift out so keep an eye on them.

Too bad experienced fish breeders can't get ahold of these. Here is a similar story from a couple years: http://voices.nationalgeographic.com/20 ... -the-week/

Re: Hypancistrus ID
Kinda reminds me of L136b as there seems to be some fry with a smaller spotting pattern. L136 is variable with pattern but as an adult is usually a more washed out gray, not black. here is a bad pic of a fry i had back in the day. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w115/plecoboy/L136Fry_zpsqg95j6sw ...

Well I already added 1/4 cup to 2 tanks. I put it in a fry saver. TDS only went up by 10 in each tank. I'll keep an eye on them.

So how much would you put in a 55 gallon tank? I picked up some oyster shell poultry feed today. Great thread !!

I think they could be. They look similar to mine. L66 would be another possibility.

Like Barbie said, Fish 3 is probably female, looks plump behind the pectoral fins. The others are probably male based on the streamlined body and hairy pectoral fins.

Re: Should hybrid or bred forms of Plecos be given l-numbers
Do the hybrid fry look similar to each other or do they vary from each other? If they vary, you wouldn't have a set example of that new hybrid number. On the plus side, the average guy probably needs RO water to breed plecos so that may help keep hybrids to a minimum in the trade.
