2 plecos, would they be suitable in with my cichlids

Hi there, I have seen 2 plecos in a local fish store that I'd be interested in having, but I never buy a fish without having a proper home for him. While I do have a 90 gallon tank, it wouldn't be suitable for them due to the sheer number of bottom feeders in the tank, along with the royal pleco ...

your replies

Thanks to you all for your thoughts. I have what I consider to be a good understanding of fish care and could see some form of "new fish" shock, but they've both been together for at least 3 years now (2 previously in another owners tank). They were both healthy. The skinny fish was skinny before I ...

your suggestions

Thanks for your thoughts... I wasn't able to see them eat even before the danios. For the first 3 months I had them totally alone, which was why I thought some dither fish might help out. I want him to be plump like the other one.. I just don't know what to try. I don't have blackworms available in ...

skinny/fat zebra pleco...why?

Well hello, its been ages since I've popped by (getting married/moving/new job etc) but I came back with an interesting question for you all about zebra plecos. I purchased what was believed to be a male/female pair about 6 months ago. They were eating and very healthy, at least 2 years old. I put ...

Humm interesting things to try out. Thanks for the ideas. I had no idea that keeping the temp up higher would help get them to eat. I keep all my tanks at 80-82...I did have the zebras in with 3 cory's and a betta, but they have since died off, the betta to old age, the cory's probably due to strain ...

31 people have read this and no one can offer at least a little suggestion?

It was suggested to me on another forum to put them in with the cichlids so they won't have to compete with bottom feeders.

Zebra plecos (feeding/moving to another tank)

I have had 2 mid-sized zebra pleco's for about 2 months now. They came from an established tank and were doing well. I moved them into their own 10 gal complete with 80 degree water, decent filtration, and lots of hiding places. Here's my 2 questions: I have yet to see any proof that they are eating ...

swim bladder treatment?

I have a rope fish that is suffering from a swim bladder infection. I don't want to move him to a q-tank without knowing first that any course of treatment will help.

Is there anything I can do?

Hey there, Might I suggest you leaving the khulis in the 10 and getting him some friends. Send the pleco to the new tank, I love schools of hatchets, very effective. 8-10 would be super. As for some mid swimmers, well, make sure they aren't something that might nip fins. I am thinking of a mid sized ...

Thanks for the thoughts.

We haven't seen a green ghost knife in these parts, so I can't say much about that.

My tank does have soft water, and a pH of about 8.0. Why I'm not sure, but we do.

I'll see if my store could get hold of a green gk. Thanks again.

Interesting, Thanks for the tips.

Of course they would be in a qtank for at least a month. I like to know they are eating already. I always feed quite a bit for my bottom guys. So I don't think lack of food would be a problem.

Anyone else with advice?

Gold Nugget pleco, how compatible?

I have a chance to head over to Vancouver to pick up a 5 " gold nugget pleco. (for the charming price of $75 CDN). Before I really consider it, I already have a royal pleco, and numerous other bottom feeders. I noticed in the catelog that they don't like sharing space with other bottom guys... is ...

You are close to a couple of large public aquariums that may be able to take the fish.

Sea World, and in canada, the Vancouver Aquarium. Both might be worth a call too.

many pleco's will eat wood to help with their diet. My royal is constantly chewing away at my mopani wood. Usually at night I can hear him rasping on it. When I first put him into the tank, I had finally managed to get a nice layer of lush green algae onto it. it was gong the next day, by the ...

is it lying on the gravel when you come in to the room or something like that? Many fish will lie right down on gravel because they are very scared. Are they lots of hiding places for it? Hi there, I can tell most people that wood from rivers etc will be ok in a tank after proper treatment. but I live on the ocean and can get great looking wood off the beach.
