Im lost for ideas on what to do

Any suggestions on how to anesthetise a betta?

The lump is even bigger and my mum has discovered that you can see right through it.
Is there a chance that it could be full of air?
He is having trouble swimming so he spends most of the time behind plants where I assume he can balance.

Anyone suggest any other possible reasons?
