Re: Banjo Catfish with tumor?

I have 3 banjos and see those types of bumps regularly. They always seem to vanish for me as well. I've had these fish several years. They seem to have more bumps lately, and I recently discovered leeches in that tank. But on the whole, all 3 seem healthy.

I did have a 4th one, who got very very ...

K. minor look really nice with some slight window light too. When the light comes in from the side they glimmer like rainbows.

Banjo cat with bump.

Hey all, I could use some suggestions for my banjo.

Unfortunately I don't have much to report for water params. I know that nitrates are under 5.0, but my other tests are too old to use. I'll try and take a sample in to test at a store for more info, although I have no reason to believe there are ...

LOL.

So far, I've busted my boyfriend for using a fish-only bucket to hold soapy water. I was kind of ticked, but it was just dawn + water + dust so it's still usable.

'Course, he's the one who'd get on my case if I used kitchen stuff for my fish. That's why I try not to : )

He also gives me a ...

I think the crayfish are really pretty! Personally, I'd keep them (but maybe not with fish). The fish are cool too, but I'm on a "googlie-eyed for inverts" type kick lately.

That just confirms my need to learn about what species of fish and critters are available locally.

Awesome! I <3 banjos.

I have to spot them in misc tanks at the local stores, although I paid $4 each for my 4. (One store raised the price on these guys from $4 to $10!)

Enjoy them!

It'd be a poor survival strategy if in the wild banjos got tangled in roots & couldn't get out

That's what I thought too, until it occurred to me that their natural habitat is leaf litter. If I understand correctly, that means they are unlikely to come across troublesome root systems in the wild ...

Banjo cats in planted tank?

Hello!

I've been daydreaming / planning future tank upgrades (searching for a job, so I'm expecting to be able to afford upgrades by the new year or so). I currently have my banjo catfish in an unplanted sand substrate tank. I was thinking about combining tanks and keeping them with my glass ...

Cool idea, but I think the fish positions need to be tweaked for a really sharp design.

Most problematically, my first impression was that the redtail and its head were 2 separate fish that just happened to be placed so that it looked like 1 fish (due to the curve of the fish and placement of the ...

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but this is all I know about genetics:

I assume (although I don't know for sure, as I've never looked for actual data on the subject) that both long fins and albinism are single recessive traits.

Assuming so:

albino parents = 100% albino fry

Long ...

I appreciate your thoughts on this.

I'm still not certain if I can get them, although I've mentioned it to my b.f. He might decide to get them for me. I plan on showing him the pictures from the cat-elog to see if he's interested, as he likes fish too.

I'm am not entirely certain of the species. I ...

African Glass Catfish

I spotted these at a LFS in a nearby city (don't usually go there because it's out of the way). They were really cute! (I have a school of Asian glass cats and I really like them).

I am tempted to get some, but I don't know what tank I would put them in, not to mention how amazingly broke I am ...

Unknown plec w/ squished face

I received this guy with an adopted Oscar. No clue what he is, but he has the funniest face shape I've ever seen. Mostly I'm interested in potential size and diet.

I know I'm not in Canada, so I'm not entirely sure how relevant this is. I paid about $4 for my banjos. This is the same price as the average cory around here. They were small sized.

I'm not certain what kind of banjos they are. They've grown but are still relatively small fish. I guess they're not ...

Well, I don't consider myself an expert on anything fish related, but here's my experience:

I use this system for all my FW tanks (all 8 of them). I think mine is an off-brand, and the attachment for the sink tends to leak, but not badly - usually just into the sink. Once managed to drench the ...

Thanks!

That's what I figured, but knowing for sure is much more comforting. I have no intentions of breeding these particular fish (due to the deformities only), but I will keep them cuz I love them. When I have more money and room and time I do hope to get a group for breeding.

I posted a while ago about my petricola and their deformed fins (<a href="http://planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17350&highlight=">here</a>).

Finally got some tolerable pics of them :

amount of food for royal?

Just last Thursday I bought a small royal. Rough estimate on size is 3 inches without tail. He's in a 90 gallon tank with a few bristlenoses as tankmates (although this will change in the next few months). The tank has real driftwood, not sure what types but there's several types and he seems to ...

Pic of banjocat

I'm excitedly going around to the forums I'm a member of and posting this picture. It's a pic of my banjo (one of three actually) that I took this morning. It's rare for him to be out in the light, and my camera can't handle the dim lighting when they're normally not hiding.

Today while feeding my glass cats, I noticed a red color in their spines. The spine appears to be two horizontal lines, the top black, the bottom red. I'd like to check that I ID'd my cories correctly. I have only 2, and want more, but want to make sure I get more of the same kind. I think they are Corydoras melanistius, but there were a few others in the Cat-elog that were similar looking.
