Re: 2011 F1 fancy plecos from apistomaster

I understand what you mean. It took me forever just to get my bristlenose to breed. I had to grow so many out just to find a female. I had all but given up when finally - eggs! I actually don't expect to have any leopard frogs breeding successfully, but the two that I have both have very round ...

Re: 2011 F1 fancy plecos from apistomaster

Well, I'm glad there was an explanation other than I'm losing it...

Apistomaster, thanks for the info. I really need a male for my two females, but don't have room for six more. If I can find someone else near me that's interested in a few, I'll post back.

Do you still have L134s left for sale?

Very strange -- I didn't see your post there clearsky, until after I posted mine. ^#(^

Re: Opinions on L134 gender

Oh sorry, MatsP, I guess I wasn't clear that it's just the two of them. I can barely tell them apart myself, but the top fish in the first two pictures is fish #1. Pictures three and four are fish #2 (I think), this one comes out in the open every once in a while. The last two older pictures I don't ...

Opinions on L134 gender

By the looks of these two, I'm guessing they are both females, but wanted some expert opinions. I want to be sure they aren't bloated and in need of some treatment -- they look like they are about to pop. Their poop has been normal looking, so I don't think that's the case. I added some new caves to ...

Re: Wisdom of feeding B.B.S. to newborn B.N.?

It sounds like you really lucked out, showing up at the lfs soon after the BNs were dropped off. My story is too long (and miserable) to go into detail, but it spans 3+ years and nine males! About the canned veggies and water quality -- I'm only feeding those to the fry, so I'm using small ...

Re: Wisdom of feeding B.B.S. to newborn B.N.?

Aquafinatic, I have my first batch of BN fry and am worrying too much as well. :D I can't help it, it's taken forever for me to find a female and finally get a spawn. I found my eggs unattended on the bottom of the tank, so I put them in a net with an airstone and hatched them that way. I've been ...

Rescued catfish needs ID

I'm trying to get an ID on this catfish for a friend who rescued it when it was turned in to a fish store. It's about 9 - 10 inches in length.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: Female bristlenose?

Calsonic, maybe someone else can help with your question because, unfortunately, I don't know the answer.

Barbie, I'm in western WA near Ft. Lewis -- Tacoma/Olympia area. I get up to Seattle once in a while, so I'm hoping I can find a female or two up there.

Re: Female bristlenose?

Thanks for the replies -- although not what I was hoping to hear. :? This is just a regular BN, not a long finned, but it is different from the other males that I have. The bristles are very, very tiny, so I was hoping it would be a female. I'll look at the pectoral fins, drgold, to see if there is ...

Female bristlenose?

I know I've seen information about venting plecos on the site before, but I can't find it anywhere now. Can anyone tell me if this is a male or female bristlenose. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z176/McKenna07/vent.jpg There are tiny bristles on the head that also go up the snout. The ...

Great idea, but I think the design is too "busy" looking. It's kind of confusing at first glance with the fish overlapped the way they are.

With a white T-shirt, maybe a darker oscar would stand out better?

That's an interesting theory - I never would have thought of that one.

To me the bristles seem like they'd actually be a problem, looking a lot like something that would attract other fish looking for something wiggly and tasty to eat. :P

Thanks for your reply, MatsP. 8)

Bristlenose bristles

I was just wondering what purpose the bristles serve? Do they continue to grow during the pleco's lifetime? I've noticed that one of my pleco's bristles are much shorter now than they were a couple of months ago. They don't look damaged; they are still formed with the little forks on the end, but ...

I figured the bottom pictured one was a "common". My others look just like that one. I just wasn't sure about the new one. They wanted three times the price of their common bristlenose for the medusas. I have the new guys in quarantine for a little while. I didn't know if that redness on this one ...

Bristlenose question

I recently purchased a couple more bristlenose that look a little different from my others. There was some question between the employees at the store as to whether they were medusa or not. I'm also wondering if the red that appears down the body is anything to worry about? My albino shows the red ...

My LFS had these listed as S. congicus, but after looking through a book they had there, it looked more like the S. notatus.

I know mine isn't heater burns either. There is just a thin white line running down both sides of the body. The lateral line is white. (But thanks for the suggestion!) It's actually a big help, just knowing that yours is recovering from the way it looked in that picture. (I think it looks kind of cool that way - like a Halloween costume. )

I will try the smaller water changes to see if that does anything to help and go from there.

Thanks for the info.
