Re: Am I a hybrid pim?

There are a number of species of Pimelodus with small, dark markings similar to yours. I think P. fur is a close match, although I am finding it difficult to rule out P. ortmannni , P. coprophagus and P. paranaensis . Can't find any of those chaps in the cat-elog, am I just being a techno-twit?

Am I a hybrid pim?

This chap was sold as a "Pimelodeus Pictus", I live in spain where species marking in store is incredibly bad so I had doubts from the start. He's now over 4" from nose to the base of his tail and has about doubled in bodylength in the 4 months I've had him, any ideas as to what he may be? The shape ...

Re: High Nitrate

Hmm, I'll have to investigate a bit but I thought the salt was used to somehow extract the nitrates stored in the resin and isn't absorbed. The stuff I have is rinsed in a brine solution for a while, then rinsed off in osmosis to get rid of any salt....

Re: High Nitrate

Indeed, but rinsing the resin is neither complex nor requires any special substances. A double-load for the filter would allow you to cycle through them, recharging one while the other is working until the levels drop to where you want them. Once you have them eliminated you only need to fire up the ...

Various wants in Spain

I'm looking for a decent supplier from anywhere in Europe with interesting cats that is willing to ship to Spain. I have a receiver here with CITES certificate for any truly rare beasts, my first and foremost wants would be larger L no.s, Platynematichthys notatus, Aguarunichthys tocantinsensis ...

Re: What sex am I?

Ok, so I read the key in the link above & felt like I'd encountered a new language :? Any chance of someone who understands it to explain in simple terms? I "identified" it by looking through the cat-elog until I found a pic that looked like Leviathan, which was the etentaculus. I got given it by my ...

Re: What sex am I?

I think it seems so pink due to the lighting/camera, it's actually quite a golden colour & hasn't got red eyes, so didn't think about it being albino. In my tank I've got a powerglo & an actinic tube, so colours that are subtle tend to be changed a bit, any way to tell for sure if it's what I think ...

Re: platydoras costatus gravid?

They're both about 13cm long without tail, one gracile one more robust and was told the more robust was female. The female suddenly got much fatter over the course of a couple of days which made me think "gravid". She shows no sign of being unwell, nor has her behaviour changed..

platydoras costatus gravid?

I hava a young pair of platydoras costatus and the female has suddenly got very fat, any chance of them breeding? Re: Dwarf syno nigriventris?

My angelicus is possibly the friendliest of my cats, the nigriventris tend to swim about with the angelicus who totally ignores them, even when there's food about. The only aggression in the tank is when there's cucumber or courgette in there and that's between the ancistrus and congo tetras as both ...

Last year I had the fridge on from about 9am to about 10pm, adjusting the cooling was simply a matter of coiling more or less tubing into the fridge. The mini-fridge cooled my water by up to 5º with a couple of metres inside, enough to keep my "cool" tropical tank at a comfy temperature.

I did it with a mini-fridge last year for the summer, but I haven't got any fotos and the fridge was given to a buddy with a lobster tank in his restaurant (they're not for eating, just for show) as it gets damn hot in there all year. I will be doing another for this summer as we get pretty high ...
