Just to reiterate the obvious to others, At about 2 inches or so females tend to get noticeably rounder in the mid section when looking down on them from above. Honestly that's been the best and soonest indicator of sex for us. Of course that combined with behaivior. Odontode growth can be ...

You need to definitely get another cave for the male. They will stay in their own territories until mating. That's just common nature for most plecos, they aren't what I would call social animals.

No, They would be F2s. The spawn from 2 unrelated fish are F1s any brother sister mingling after that would be F2, then F3, F4, F5 etc etc. You can normally push the inbreeding a little but I wouldn't go past F5s and expect to not start to see deformities.

It looks like a hypancistrus of some type. A better picture is needed to even try to guess at what kind it is.

Ah yes I agree they are not juveniles. I missed the odontodes the first time I looked at them. 399 is going to be my best guess, even then it's hard to say for sure without a collection point. These are 399s. I post this pic of them in the bag to show the different shape of the head between male and ...

It's either a young L66 or a 399. The 2 look very similar when young. As it gets older it will either change and look like a 66 or stay the same in which case it would be a 399.

I wouldn't give up just yet. Yours may not be old enough. We've had ours for a little over as yr and it's only been the past few months that they have started "showing" like that. You may just need to sit on them for a wile.

When the girls become gravid there is no mistaking that they are full of eggs. They can't lay without teetering on their bellies. We are just running our group through the rainy season for the first time, but they became gravid long before we started the dry season or had any males for that matter ...

That's what we thought too, but that dorsal makes us wonder. Could it be just deformed?
