Anorexic Tandanus

Hello there! My normally insatiable tandanus has stopped eating! He used to have up to six pellets a day and now eats nothing. This has been going on for a week. Just a few days ago I noticed one of his rear fins is red but this is clearing. He has never had any illnesses in the five years I have ...

I followed Coelocanth's advice and cleaned my filter out, rinsing in tank water, I did however replace the fine white filter as it was a bot beyond rinsing and replaced it with a more sturdy fine filter pad. The water didnt seem to clear to much so I did a 50% water change and after a few days it ...

Thanks everyone. I will attempt to clean the pads in tank water this afternoon and let you know how I go.

By the way Ron, can we ever go on too much about our fish? I think not!! :D Kind of like the idea of two filters, sounds very logical.

I love reading everyones posts and experiences.

Thanks for the advice so far. Its an Aqua One CF-1000. I only have one tandanus in the tank, he's about 25cm long. He eats 3 pellets twice a day but lately will eat even more. I am cutting him back to 3 only once a day til I get the water sorted. Ph was a little acidic but I am levelling this back ...

Canister filter maintenance

Hey everyone, Can anyone give me advice on maintaining/cleaning my filter. I recently moved my gorgeous tandanus into a 4ft tank from a 2ft tank. He is much happier and has even grown a bit more! I bought a new canister filter (noodles, fine white pad, thick black pad) which was doing an awesome job ...

How lovely to read your tribute but sad as well. I have a gorgeous Tandanus which I have had for over four years now. He is a good 20cm (about 8") long but thats a guesstimate. He is such a character! I would be devastated to lose him so I can imagine how you feel.

Green Water!!

Hi there, I'm having a weird time with my poor tandanus. His water keeps turning green. I had an algae ( slimy stuff on rocks and ornaments, that grew like string) outbreak a while ago and got it under control by cleaning and algae fix. I ahve also got Cycle in the water and he isn't at all stressed ...

I also had this problem and thus far seem to have controlled it. First up I cleaned it off evrything..and like you it was on evrything and anything in my tank apart from my Tandanus! My local aquarium shop told me it was probably due to the light and recommended a product called AlgaeFix which is ...

Thanks Silurus,

Its quite a bright/mid green so maybe I'll get a few more snails. I'd like to get a smaller sucker fish but I think my tandanus would eat it before it ate much algae.
Shall work on a big clean out this afternoon and let you know how it all goes.

Green stuff growing in my tank.

Hi Guys, Hope you can all help me out again. I recently changed my filter system to an external canister as well as putting a light over my two foot tank. I now have lots of green "algae" growing on my rocks, ornaments and whatever else it can latch onto including my mystery snail!! Its kind of ...

Aussie Tandanus behaviour

Hey there,,I'm a newbie to the board so bear with me. I've had a Tandanus catfish for about four years now in a coldwater 2ft tank. He was initially put in with some other fancy chinese goldfish and seemed to be quite ok with them although I suspect a bit of chasing went on when the lights went out ...
