Re: Hi - New cory keeper with a sand question

In my breeding tanks I have only 1/5 inch. In my "stock tanks" however, i have it deeper, and inch or so, even a little more. That will allow some plants, i.e. Vallisneria, to grow. In those tanks I have "trompet snails" ( Melanoides tuberculata , I think). They seem to keeps it from compacting and ...

Re: Hi - New cory keeper with a sand question

I do not believe that the sand can be "to fine" for cories with grain size of 0,1 - 0,4 mm. I have not been to SA, but several friends have, and on pics that are readily available on the net of their habitat, the substrate some times resembles clay, which will be even finer than 0,1 mm grain size ...

Re: Microglanis Iherengi

Seriously considering doing the same with mine in a standard 90 L (22 gal).

I would like your ideas and thoughts on
1) Ideal gender ratio in this size tank
2) Flowrate of filter/pump
3) Temperature modification to induce breeding? (Have been keeping them at 23-24, just increased to 26½ C)
4) Tank ...

Re: Microglanis Iherengi

I am still very interested in this subject, as I keep M. iheringi, and the females are in extremely good condition.

I would be happy if the pics, data and the aquarium setup could be shared. Also details to where they spawn etc.

Re: Your favourite Corydoras?

Corydoras adolfoi here also.

The way they act in the aquarium is to me unique of all the species I've had. They tend to sit there on display, rarely hiding. They are beautiful too, and then they are extremely good at not eating their own fry or eggs in a species tank. They can make a lot of babies ...

Stumbled on this on youtube, find it to be very beautifull. As the video is quite old, I wonder if anyone has details on what it is. Just want to find it in the cat-e-log.

Thanks!

American help pls! - LFS, NYC

Hi All,

I have been to North America quite a few times lately, but have yet not seen anything near a serious aquarium fish dealer.

Last week, I was in Chicago. I stumbled on several petstores in the giant shopping malls, but the selection of fish was narrow and very main stream, mostly colourfull ...

Re: paddlefish/shovel nosed sturgeon

Both species are Cites II.

An yes, it is weel known, that Acipenser ruthenus, Huso huso, Acipencer güldenstädti are bred commercially. Huso huso well protected, and only for maintaining the wild population.

But I find nu info on these two species, and that is what I seek. I am curios where these ...

Sorry, not a catfish question. However, didn't know where else to turn but this magnificent forum.

Polyodon spathula and/or Psephurus gladius are beginning to turn up in the aquarium trade!

Does anyone know, if one or both species are bred commercially? I suspect none of them are, as I find no ...

Hi again, Apistomaster.

I don't have acces to any formalin based meds around here. In Denmark, formalin is, as far as i know, forbidden by law to sell to/use by private persons.
Acyually CuSO4 and malachite green are as well, even trout farms have now to document, that they have no other means of ...

Update:

The fish are still alive, i make 30% daily waterchange. I have set the heater to 30 degrees celcius, but actual temp climbs slowly, and is now only at 28 C.

Panaques are still full of spots, but no other inhabitans seem affected... Yet.

I have added a mix of bromephenolgreen and CuSO4 ...

Okay, i will forget my formaline idea. I kind of panicked i guess, and I would very much like to avoid the formalin.

I will try and raise the temp to 28-29 Celcius, and add oxygenation, as soon as i get home from work.

Thank You very much for the hint.

All help still welcome!

We should have some of these in the catelog-page. Especially the photo-series of the growth, very informative.

Hi Worton

I think NH3 is ammonia. Yeah, I'll test for that.
We do not have Sera Nitrivec at the local store - or any store around - but Tetra has something very similar. I'll try that then, if nitrates are high.

I'll take it slow with the pH.

Thanks for the advice.

-Aqua Safe
-Black Peat
-Becks Multi (Medication)

They seemed stressed from travelling offcourse, but otherwise okay - I saw the fish myself ...
