Re: stocking help

So you are suggesting I add a chiller to get my water that cold?

stocking help

I have a pair of Gymnogeophagus meridionalis eartheaters frim Uraguay. They tend to like the cooler temps, but I really am not planning on going under 72F. They are in a 20 long. I'd like to stock it with some type of catfish in addition to the 6 bloodfin tetras I'd like to add. I'm thinking I'd ...

In my experience the oscars typically ignore catfish and tend to be more aggressive towards cichlids. If trouble is noticed, a change will certainly be made.

Another reason I think I have Hoplosternum littorale is that this fish is very active during the day like the one Bas Pels mentions. I plan on keeping one with an oscar in a 100 gallon tank.

It looks more like the Hoplosternum littoraleto me. I say that because of the color and the more deeply grooved (I don't know the proper term) tail. Overall shape matches better too. A very active fish for a catfish. Do they do well as a single specimen in a tank?

Callichthys catfish

I have an armored catfish I got from the lfs. It is about 3 inches long and dark brown. It swims all over the tank constantly, regardless of the time of day. It feeds a lot from the top of the tank. Is it probably the Callichthys callichthys catfish? I can't find much info on them.

I have ordered some bristlenose plecos that are 3-4 inches long. Most of my big haps are in the 3-4 inch range now too. The bn plecos should be plenty big for now, even when the cichlids outgrow them they will be big enough to deter possible problems, I think.

Thanks. Much to think about. The haps may just ignore the bristlenoses. I may try them and see.

need big algae eater for big African haps

I have a 125 gallon with haplochromine cichlids that will get up to 12 inches. What is a good algae eater for this tank? I like bristlenose but I need one that gets over 4 inches to be safe, but I'd be more happy with a 6 inch fish. Don't siamese algae eaters get 6 inches?

I purchased some bristlenose. I have 2 albinos and 3 regular. I've had the albinos for awhile and I know they do a great job. I just purchased the browns for my other tanks. I appreciate all the help b/c I was going to get rubbernose, just to get something different, until I read all the responces ...

bristlenose

I may just get bristlenose. They seem to be easier to keep and they are better at cleaning. I keep my tanks at 78F or above and that is better for bristlenose too I guess.

bristlenose vs. rubber mouth (nose) for algae

I've kept common plecos and albino bristlenoses for keeping my aquariums clean. I've got a new tank or 2 and I need a few more for cleaning, but the tanks are small and I don't want a common pleco. The lfs has 3" bristlenose and 2" rubbernose plecos. Which is better for eating all algae? If both are ...

new here at PlanetCatfish, eupterus question

I've been eyeing some S . eupterus at my lfs. I am keeping some S . ocellifer in my Lake Malawi cichlid tank with good luck. I really dig Synodontis cats! Anyway, those S . eupterus really look cool and I'm looking for a catfish or 2 for a 55 gallon tank that will house 1-4 Blue Jack Dempsey ...
