Re: bronze corydoras laying eggs like crazy.

i swear. im expecting the trilineatus to spawn today. they got a water top off 36 hours ago. they got blood worms last night. its pretty much a foregone conclusion. the 36 eggs i collected should be hatching on tuesday. so many fry. i love watching the newest fry reappear. as wigglers, they ...

Re: bronze corydoras laying eggs like crazy.

ive been pondering putting birthcontrol in the water (not seriously). my trilineatus are breeding machines right now. theyve been spawning about every 5 days for over a month now. this past week ive had 105 eggs hatch. another 3 dozen were laid yesterday.

ive got a ten gallon set up to grow them ...

Re: Are the Corys DONE breeding, or AREN'T they???

I agree all corys are different, i'm relative new to corys and have only kept them since last september, within a week my trilineatus had started spawning, they only give a few eggs, the most being around 16 eggs ,within 3-4 hours i then remove them (after playing hunt the eggs) when they've stopped ...

Re: Why does my fry tank fail...

are you keeping a substrate in your fry tank? im new to raising cory fry (this is something like my fifth attempt at it so take my advice with a grain of salt). i had 100% failure prior to adding some sand from the parent tank to a breeder box that has remained in the parent tank near the output of ...

so far so good. ive lost 2, but they were very skinny and may have just been weaker than the rest. the rest are fattening up though and the ones with blunted whiskers are showing signs of healing. these little guys are a blast to watch

Re: what is the largest shoal of corydoras catfish you've had?

ive been noticing how quickly this bunch settled in. none are acting stressed or odd. ALL are eating like pigs. watching them eat is AMAZING. i watched some sinking wafers disappear in about 20 minutes this morning.

i cant wait to put them all in one tank. i plan to plant the sides and leave the ...

what is the largest shoal of corydoras catfish you've had?

i got a group of 35 the other day. 9 are mixed trilineatus and possibly julii. the remaining 26 are definately agassizii. to these i will add my 8 odd corys (3 brochis splendens, 3 paleatus, 1 trilineatus, and 1 schwartzi; the trilineatus and schwartzi were in larger groups that died out).

im ...

Re: rip vincent and rachel

uh, here in the us, unless there has been a disaster, generally its not necessary to take water purification quite that far. nor do i have time/energy to boil water for a dozen tanks ;P (smallest is 25 gallons; largest right now is 100). great idea, but not practical for lots of huge tanks in a ...

Re: rip vincent and rachel

thanks everyone for your sympathy. ive been monitoring my tank all day today watching the ammonia level drop (whew). it was 1ppm at 1am, .5ppm at 7am, and just a trace (less than .25ppm) at 1pm. we will be letting water sit overnight before water changes until the ammonia disappears from the tap ...

Re: rip vincent and rachel

i ALWAYS use prime. removes chlorine and chloramines. it also is supposed to lock ammonia in a non toxic state. but if the water company mucked with the water chemistry, it may take more prime to detoxify the water. time to let water sit overnight before doing water changes again. this is the second ...

Re: Tank setup Baryancistrus beggini L239??

there is a really good thread buried in here with links to how a guy in france managed to get his to spawn. youll have to dig a bit, then run the links through babelfish, but there is a total wealth of information in there

good luck! id like to breed these little guys too.

if these guys are new, it may take some time for the odonts to grow in properly. my definitive male had very short odonts for a long time. it took about 6 months before real growth was evident. now he had uber odonts!

that one is definately a male. he now has HUGE bristles on his gills and his pectoral fins look like they could be medieval weapons! hes also not very round when viewed from overhead.

i have a second one now that may be a female (we'll see in 6 months). much rounder and a lot less bristly.

Re: L 239 baryancistrus beggini

they are RIDICULOUSLY hard to keep. in my experience, keep an eye out for parasites, and having a MATURE tank is essential to keeping them. quarantine is hard on them unless there is substrate and wood and plants for them. they tend to be super picky eaters, so having stones coated in fishfood/egg ...
