Re: How should I treat this issue? - L333 Tiger King Pleco

Possibly, the other L333 may have matured a bit and decided to become dominant. Which would then mean you'll need to create more hidey holes in that tank, or another tank, for the subdominant (injured) fish. Only other possibility is some type of fin rot. That would speak to water quality (Low ...

Re: How should I treat this issue? - L333 Tiger King Pleco

Thats a pretty good bite or injury. Do you have other plecos in the tank? And they can get their tails caught in 'stuff' and freak out in order to get free of the impedance. Personally, although its a pretty deep break, i would just observe an see if it will grow back. A healthy pleco can generally ...

with Bagrichthys... Out of my current 8 set ups their tank is the only one without a single snail of any kind. That is interesting Shane. Do you think B. macracanthus is eating them? I have a tank that has, since its setup more than a year ago, had only one large ramshorn snail in it. No babies what ...

Early Christmas

So one of my local fishshops is replacing all their tanks. All fish half off!? I couldn't resist. Leporacanthicus triactis 2 males $20.00 each US Ancistrus sp. Honeycomb 1 $20.00 US Bagrichthys macracanthus 1 $12.00 US! All very young fish. I almost got a Synodontis flavitaeniatus but I'm going to ...

Ectoparasites

Not sure this is the right forum for this, but I'm wondering what people are treating ectoparasites with now-a-days? I have a fish with a few ectoparasite hanging onto the caudal peduncle and the tail is slowly disappearing. I suspect it's some type of Argulus sp. Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for a tiny Tall tank

I'm on the hunt for a small tall tank, with a footprint of 12"x6" and a height of about 10 or more inches. Would probably turn out to be about 2 US gallons.

Re: Featherfin & Petricola temperature?

Hi Grazy. If you can identify your fish to species, then others may be better able to help you. In your other post, as well as this one you are mixing 'common' names and scientific names. "petricolas" is the scientific species name for your fish from Tanganyica (if that is what you have ...

Re: Can featherfin & Petricola be kept together?

Petricola are from the Rift lakes (Tanganyika), which is hard water (high mineral content). Featherfins" I'm assuming you are referring to Synodontis eupterus) is a riverine species soft water (low mineral content). Basically, I would say don't do it. But people do all kinds of stuff. One of these ...

Re: Large Gibbiceps Euthanasia

Yes, I agree with Alison, the fish has 'given' you 34yrs of whatever you've benefitted from keeping this magnificent fish. It's not a big price to ask to allow it to live out its last few, days, weeks, months on its own terms. All of our fishes suffer at some point, under our best intentions. I vote ...

Re: My Public Aquarium: exhibit blues - how to make them?

For your 25k problem, maybe a more resilient, protective 2nd fabric layer like acrylic, or theres that fabric they use for boat hulls (not sure if its fish safe). Then the flag stone on top. Then, the largest, smooth pea gravel possible for cover and backfill. Not perfect but cheap. Just thinking ...

Re: Poorly Featherfin squeaker :(

I have not used API conditioner myself. I do use "Prime" neutralizer, mainly for the chloramine. My cats are sensitive, and they've taught me over the years how much (more or less) I need to add. I don't measure since I've been doing it for so long. I would think you'd be safe with putting a 'rough ...

Re: Poorly Featherfin squeaker :(

Hah! believe me, you are not alone, they trick me all the time! But seriously, this fish is a schooling species in my opinion. They just need a lot of space to get away from each other when they need to, and as they get older. An S. eupterus at 4.5 inches, I would guess is about 3-4yo. or older ...

Re: Poorly Featherfin squeaker :(

If you're getting positive results with the water conditioner, that's a good thing. But I would be cautious about adding more chemicals to your tank. It is so easy to try to 'fix stuff' with chemicals when we know so little about fish physiology. From what I see on your videos, it looks like your ...

Re: Synodontis ID, potential S. Ocifeller?

Have you checked your 'furniture' (ie. driftwood, ornaments) thoroughly? Syno's can lock themselves into small cavities and not let go for periods of time (or at least until they can't breath). Take the furniture out of the tank and set it on a towel. Wait a few minutes, it might just fall out of ...

Maybe you've got a consolidated pair of the Vieja hybrids? Looks like the smaller female (black throat) is defending on the opposite side of furniture. Doesn't look like they have figured out how to defend against those loaches though.
