Re: ISO edible catfish, non-protected in NM, USA.
Pangasius - sutchi - Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (often called basa) is popular in SE Asia due to their fast growth and ability to handle crowding and lower oxygen levels. Not that difficult to hormone induce (speaking from personal experience) if you can't buy fingerlings and can tolerate ...

Re: Fish Room Build
BTW; my very first fish room didn't have floor drains but I used low pressure constant drip to water change around 150 small tanks (predominantly 10 to 20 gallon). Simple water displacement to change out water and because the drip rate was so slow, I was able to use 25mm conduit to take waste water ...

Re: Fish Room Build
With a background like that, you will have no issues tweaking a fish room to suit your needs. I run 2 airpumps per central air manifold loop, each air pump on different dedicated electrical circuit but only one electrical circuit on ememergency power backup. There are a myriad of other redundancies ...

I run 3 separate fish rooms and in a perfect pre-planned world, I would definitely have floor drains, a wide diameter water line, platform sink, high ceilings and good insulation. I'm into breeding, run species only tanks and require 4 times the growout space to breeding space so I am constantly run ...

Corydoras have armour plating over their skin so you wont see white spot. And the white spots dont form until they cyst up.
Just letting you know that it could still be white spot.

Re: New 33 gallon long (4 foot) tank with waterfall and kinon
For anyone interested, I achieved similar benefits with a surge tank. Small powerhead or pump (cheaper to buy and run, easier to hide) from the fish tank slowly fills a reservior tank above tanks water level until an auto siphon rapidly dumps back into the tank through a pipe creating a surge - wave ...

You wont be able to induce by adding Ovaprim to the water column. A large portion is due to the dopamine inhibition aspects, not just the supply of gonadotropin (sGnRHa). Additionally Ovaprim breaks down rapidly in water and the dosage rates are important - too little or too much wont work. You may ...

You could put in a tank divider? Doesn't need to be glass.
Or set up a holding tank from any water tight container. Large bucket, wheelie bin, box lined with plastic sheet, wheelbarrow etc. It's only for a few weeks.

Adding my sympathies and condolences as well. I have been through similar episodes several times. The more fish you keep, the more chances this will occur. Finally becoming more efficient and effective at doing so. (Higher success rates and with less effort). That ...

Re: Mortal disease: treatment ?
There is a huge amount of information online. For example https://eshalabs.com/how-to-take-a-skin-scrape/ Corydoras are armoured fish which makes skin scrapes and visually spotting skin ailments much harder as the armor hides their skin (white spot for example is best identified behaviourally for ...

Some of those public aquarium tanks were over 150mm thick and would have been professionally designed and installed. I'm sure all tanks can fail. It's just that big tanks may fail spectacularly. I've had glass tanks fail too. As previous owner of several retail aquarium stores which provided ...

Re: Tank age and leaks
What size(s) of tanks and what materials were you considering? For larger and deeper tanks, it's actually best to have small spacing (1~2mm) between panels whether using silicone or PU. Silicone technology has improved with longer warrantied working life, structural grade strengths, modulus (amount ...

If you have an oxygen gas cylinder, you can boost the dissolved oxygen in the late afternoon for an early morning spawn. Either with a slow bubbling airstone (more wasteful) or an underwater trapped chamber of oxygen (inverted bowl - repurposed media reactor - etc) that will reduce down as oxygen ...

Sounds like gill or skin flukes but without a microscope check everything is speculation. Do you have access to a low powered microscope? Even a cheap USB or plastic kids microscope is sufficient for 200X magnification. Some smaller protozoan parasites (example - costia) are harder to find than huge ...

If your trying to breed, the best advice I have is to buy both groups (and more) giving you the chance to sort for quality, personality and sex by behaviour and interaction over time and which I find more reliable than external differences. Having a bigger breeding pool saves you a lot of time ...

Today is the day... The wels makes me uneasy. It's a gamble either way you slice it, to my mind. The pros are that the wels is relatively docile, he doesn't like large items to swallow dead or alive, the pima are alert, they get a chance to grow in the big tank which may eliminate their desire to ...

One of the golden rules for fish keeping is that if you have an unknown problem and fish aren't happy then do a large water change.
It wouldn't hurt to do a good clean on substrate and filters too.
