ping -a is a reverse lookup so should be used for addresses to hostnames, so the switch isn't required.
The average TTL of a DNS record on the web is approx 24hrs which makes us about 6 days too late roughly.

I am not sure how he is doing it but he IS getting in. He has updated one of my posts as I received notification by email. It seems odd that he googled it on another computer and got in.

Unfortunately the owner over the last few years has, for valid reasons, logged into PF less and less. Infact the last time he was online was back in February if memory serves me correctly. He was supposed to have allocated the relevant privelidges to keep the site up ...

I think you're probably spot on, although I will still get the required photos just for confirmation purposes.
Interesting to note that the pattern returned over time, I wonder why that is. Not that it matters much but I do hope my doesn't lol.

...My immediate guess is that this is a one-off, a specimen which colouration has not developed normally. It would be really cool if it was a new species though

Having never seen one like it before...I would of thought would of sparked some novelty interest compared to just Id'ing another bn...
Anyway, best guesstimates so far would have it down as a baryancistrus.

Found this little fella hiding in the back of an lfs yesterday. They had him down as an L142 variant but if it is it's quite an extreme variant...any ideas?

I take it you already have a good selection of wood in the tank, since this will make up a good proportion of it's diet?
As for making food look more enticing: garlic extract, made specifically for aquariums is generally used when dealing with a fish which are either finnicky or not eating at all ...
