As I was treating with the Pimafix I had removed the carbon temporarily. I'll put some in today and do a waterchange after it been in a while then run the esha hexamita and exit combo as it seems a reasonable catch all and is thankfully not too chemical.

Cheers

Hi Mat, The fishes behaviour has been odd since Monday and normally my Cichlids tend to be quite good at alerting me to Ich. Is it possible that I won't see the white spots due to the Hoplo's scales? I have Cory's and a few plecs also that seem unaffected. I always seem to come across diseases with ...

Hoplo illness

On Monday of this week I noticed that the larger(4inches/10cm) of my 3 Hoplo's appeared to be in some distress. He was swimming erratically but not flashing and seemed unable to rest for any period. I could see nothing additional in terms of symptoms so called my local LFS for some advice. They ...

Hi Jon, Is there anything key that I should be looking for in differentiating these two plecs? They're both nice, but I'll happily take a mango if theres a chance of a mix up.

L070 Plec availability

Hello,

I'm forever perusing the Cat-elog and I kinda fell in love with the 'Zombie' Pleco. Has anyone come across these fish in the UK?

Haha, the scientist in me just wants to go and give that a try with some chalk!!

I gave the urn a few baths and a scrub but it still has some algae like stuff on it. I like the look of it as it seems old. Do you think its worth getting all of this off, or could it be a treat for my Plecs :?:

Many Thanks for that, I'm always a little dubious with such things. A friend recomended tryiong a little vinegar to see if it reacted. Ive given it a few baths now so will add to the tank in due course.

Hello, I recently moved to a new house and the back garden resembles some kind of oasis. Partially buried in gravel, I found a great terracota urn that i'd like to add to my tank. It currently has a nice selection of blotchy growth on it. Is there a process I should run through before adding the urn ...

I run a 240l Juwel tank with an additional interpet filter acting as a backup/powerhead. Temp is 26/78 with Ammonia and Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20ppm. PH is 6.8 and I do a 10% RO water change each week. I have read about the heat increase for Ich to speed its life cycle, but the medications I have been ...

I've now got a 20l tank up and running and have the blues seperated. I'm running a bacteria medication, so hopefully they can get on the road to recovery. Does anyone have a quarentine routine or a best practice with introducing new fish?

Many Thanks

Hello, I'm afraid I don't have another tank with which to quarentine them. My friend at the LFS has a number of tanks and has mentioned that he can take the blues and treat them. I'm lucky in many respects as he is a keen catfish person and has helped me out greatly with the appropriate medications ...

Cichlids and the like

I decided upon moving to my new tank, that I should try and diversify with the fish I keep. In this instance, I opted to expand on a pair of dwarf cichlids(Laetacara Dorsigera)that i'd had for some time. I obtained 4 more Dorsigera and 5 Laetacara Curviceps. These fish were obtained mail order ...

Gold Marble Ancistrus or Other

Hello, I picked up a 4cm long Bristlenose recently that was sold under the subject moniker. Following some nosing in the Cat-elog, it seems that this may not be the case. Unfortunately the pictures I attempted where all rather useless, but I can offer a brief description. This fellow appears mostly ...

Cheers Paulf, I'll hopefully order some in due course as it sounds excellent. I have a 240l tank so I guess 10ml of so would be the weekly dosage. I think the flukes came in with some wild caught Laetacara cichlids.

Thanks again

Mystery Disease

Hi all, Following a good amount of investigation I believe my fish are suffering from Gill Flukes. I purchased some Sterazin to start treatment, but noticed that I can't use it with some scaleless fish. I have a Synodontis Eupterus, so have concerns. In addition I have an armoured shrimp kicking ...

Brush Algae

I recently noticed some fluff like substance growing on an Anubias plant in my tank. Following some investigation, it turns out that this is Brush Algae. Many thanks guys. The residue from the coconuts was a tad worrying, but I guess the temp in the tank is'nt going to be sufficient to encourage the leeching. Coconuts and plants

As usual I'm hoping this is in the right place. I was recently given some coconut halves, that previously contained birdfeed. LO25 and Parancistrus aurantiacus

A friend of mine works in an LFS and called me up from the wholesalers saying they had some great Chubby Plecs and would I like one. They were the gold variety so I jumped at the chance. I went to see it today and this thing is about 20cm long and almost as wide. Apparently they'd never seen them in ...
