Fish Tuberculosis or Neon Disease?
I have a few neons in a 10 gallon tank. One neon has been showing strange symptoms. His coloring is darker, and his spine is curving to one way, giving him a "bent" appearence. I looked online and saw it might be fish tuberculosis. Then I wondered why it hit my neons, but no other fish. What do you ...

A new idea? (and a good pet store!)
I recently visited a store that had just opened up in Connecticut. It is called aquatic wildlife. They take very good care of their fish, and house them in tanks that could be permanent homes for them. They also have about a 500 or so gallon aquarium with saltwater fish. In addition, they also have ...

A Beanstalk?
My sibling recently purchased a minibow 2.5 gal. aquarium. He used the filter that came with it. He used gravel from his other 1 gal. aquarium, and gravel from my 20 gallon which was collected from a stream. I noticed a small beanstalk sprouting from a bean located in the aquarium. I have not ...

Low PH, what do I do?
Ok. I am the proud owner of a crystal clear (for now) 20 gal. aquarium. A few weeks ago, the tank was slightly cloudy. So I restricted light use, but that didn't help. After a sleepover at my friends house, the tank turned crystal clear. I tested the PH, and it was at 6.2! (it was at 7.2 about 2 ...

They could be a kind of fly larvae. Did it happen to have sand or something of the like stuck all around it? I have a few of these in my 20 gal. high, since I used "100% natural gravel" (straight from a local stream) I noticed a few of what you mentioned, oh shoot! I forgot what they were called ...

The temperature of my house is about 70 F, so I don't need to worry about a cold tank. Actually, I have this tank because we just don't know what to do with it  My brother originally got it for his betta, bob, but he died, we got another, but that one too died within a month. Now we have a very ...

New fish for desktop aquarium
Hello, members of planet catfish! I come to you again with a question about which fish to put in. I have a 1 gallon desktop aquarium which used to house a betta, unfortunately, the aquarium was higher than it is wide, so the betta could not get to the top :( poor fishie. Now, this aquarium came with ...

You only need to unplug the heater if it is glass. What happens in the glass will heat up very quickly and then shatter, which, as you could probably tell, is bad. However, most heaters have a min. fill line on their side, so If you do a small enough water change, you do not need to unplug it. Some ...

I accedentally forgot to plug my heater back in after a large water change. It took a week for me to see it, when I went to do another water change. I also noticed that I had forgotten to plug the filter in too! Fortunately, all of my fish are still fine and just a few days ago I moved ...

Water changes
Apparently, my (female) informer apparently does not do as many water changes as reccomended by most, as she has a large aquarium. Maybe I have been doing too many water changes? I'll try to find other possible reasons why.

how do you keep snails alive?
Hi, I'm the proud owner of 2 aquariums, a 10 gallon and a 20 gallon. The only problem is, I want snails. The type of snails I have access to are Ramshorn snails. I had a few but they died within a month! How do I keep these little buggers alive? My water parameters are as follows: Ph - 6.8 to 7.0 ...

How to eliminate snails in a 10 gallon fry tank?
Someone I know is haveing a trounble with Ram's horn snails in her 10 gallon fry tank. She cannot move them to another tank. Scince the tank is moderately overpopulated, I suppose clown loaches are out of the question. She has harder water with few plants or hiding places, though she may get some in ...

Rubbery
It looks like a rubber pleco to me, but like previously stated. Try to get a picture of the fish when it is in the water, as many fish change coloration when stressed and could mislead us in our identification.

Pvc
You could also take a peice of PVC pipe only slightly larger that the heater and slip it over it, you just need enough water flow to heat the tank, not just the water in the pipe
