UV sterilizers and bio bac
I would like to know how UV serilizers affect the benificial bacteria in the tank system? Are they best ahead of a filter, after, or on there own circulator? On this topic, does anyone know if the home sterilizers have a check-valve, to stop the migration of bacteria into the post strilized pipes ...

Pricing vs currency
In my Country, Canada, the dollar has risen in value. $1US=1.15CAN exchanged vs. previous $1US=1.25+ CAN But many, Canadian online prices, and store prices have not changed to reflect my dollar buying power. I can order from US retailors but the individual brokerage fees and or the tariff on the ...

Is there a diferance between deionized and RO water? I was directed away from using RO water ratios to balance my PH by a LFS guy who has been pretty cool about giving me advice. He recommended just letting the fish I keep, just get used to the tap water conditions. Now if I did go with the RO or ...

need PH reduction
I will be setting up a 145 gallon tank with a 30gal. sump filter.
My tap water ph is around 8< and fairly hard.
What is the least costly and or easiest way to reduce the ph to <7?
I would be making 30 gal. weekly changes.
I live in an apartment so rain water is not an option.

Thanks. I gather that there might be some advantage to the larger gravel, in that a deep layer of fine gravel may have a reduced level of circulation in the lower portions. The reduced circulation might provide a low oxygen content near the bottom portion of gravel, providing that unsafe bacteria ...

Gravel and parasites
Does the the size and depth of gravel, affect the reproduction abilities of parasites that reproduce in it? Do the parasites require dense confined breeding ground, or do they do best with some circulation of water. I have coarse river gravel .25" < .5", about 1.5" deap, and wonder if reducing the ...

I have a half a coconut, with a 3/4-1" hole, in my comunity tank, that come out of a well aged guppy tank. My royal will not leave it alone. It has stripped all the "hairs" off the coconut rendering it bald and smooth. The other fish in the tank thought the coconut of much interest at first as well ...

What meds are bad for Royals ?
I have a community tank, that seems to have a fungus or similar infection, (fish scraping and a barb with a 1/16" gray patch).
I have heard that Loricariidae have a low tolerance for copper.
Is this true, and what other medication ingrediants should I avoid?
